84, M1008. Anyone familiar with the governor?

Looking for someone who knows about the M1008 governor. I'd like to go 65. Like the 14.6 mpg at 45mph but on occasion I'd like to take the hwy.

Your going to get all answers to this question , but the general consensus is the engine RPM's at that speed due to the turbo 400 transmission and 4.56 gears . The best way to increase speeds is either a 7004r transmission swap or change the axle ratio's . Bigger tires help some but the 6.2 are not a power house to start with .
Owning a MV generally mean life in the slow lane.

235/85/16 tires, 4.56 axle ratio and 1:1 on the transmission. Do the math, you will be at about 3500 at 65mph. The max engine rpm is 3600 rpm.

Be easier just to split the difference and drive 55 on the highway. I get between 17 and 18mpg on the highway that's posted 65mph. Of course I don't know how some states think of driving below the posted speed limit but I've had State Troopers behind me and never an issue. They just eventually pass me. So far I haven't had other motorists flip me off or lay on the horn so it must not bother most lol.

If you want speed buy a different truck.
The M1008 was built for torque and convoy speed (45 mph).
It’s not a Duramax

Almost every highway will have a minimum speed, which is usually 10-15 mph under posted speed limit.
Most of the time it’s posted and a lot of times it isn’t.
You’ll be ok at 10 under.
Now having someone that’s distracted see you in time to avoid a collision, is a different matter.

I never intentionally go over 55mph/3000rpm.
I also stay off the Interstate as much as possible so I don’t get hit.

FYI, I used the Grimm jeeper gear ratio calculator and came up with the following. Assuming a stock truck with 4.56 gears, TH400 and 235/85R16 tires, you will be turning 2806 @55, 3061 @60 and 3316 @65 MPH.

My SECM has an SM465 and 4.10 gearsets. It turns 2388 @55, 2605 @60 and 2822 @65 MPH. Between the 100% lockup of the clutch and the 4.10 gear, I picked up 10 MPH. With that said I always ran 60 on the highway even with stock everything.
