923A2 Cab makeover - new seats!

I did 8 coats to try and replicate thickness, plus I had done some rust repair so I just said what the heck and did it anyways. I left the square of the spring seat in so that it is uncoated 8 coats only seems to have added 3/8-1/2" so not to bad

Got the brackets painted and installed the drivers seat base. Installed the seat base and then Put the seat on the brackets.

Like a lot of us I have back problems, and need a cushy ride. I think the stock spring bases on these provide a very reasonable amount of shock absorbtion if you weigh 200 or more. For a softer ride, crank the handle on the front all the way out. The seat itself makes a huge difference and I'm glad I made the switch. The stock seat was killing my back.

I will put the exact same seat in the passengers side as well. In fact, I will put these exact seats in the Mission 22 Truck in Idaho later this week. Now that I have done this one, I know the routine. Most of the parts are there. What isn't there is in the mail on its way there.

Looks slick, I test fit my mrap seats and I am not impressed, not far enough back for me to be comfortable, looks like I'm going to be hunting for some new seats

That's the problem. There is no more room back there. You have almost no room to play with. I have my chair at the perfect balance of recline and giving up forward space. At 6'00" tall, I suspect anyone taller or bigger than me would struggle.

Hey, look at is as an excuse to make a crew cab out of it!

In the picture it looks like my chair is rubbing the back of the cab, but there is 2" or so of space. When the seat compresses, it shifts forward, not straight down.

I was concerned about the limited space, but these seats are just about perfect. I checked out the back of the seat after the test drive and there was never any contact with the back of the cab.

I don't know why all you little guys have so many problems riding in a 939 series truck. I fit just fine and I am 6'8" and was almost 400 lbs when I switched to the 939 series from the 809 series.

That's perfect. What coating did you use? I'm looking at Monstaliner pretty hard.

I just did mine using this. I've used it before and like the results. It's watery thin when you apply it, which you'd think was a bad thing for bed liner. It gets down in the crevices real nice though and adheres well. It does take more coats due to the consistency, but the coats can be applied an hour apart so it doesn't take long. 3 coats ended up being the same thickness as the original. 24-48 hr drying time after all coats have been applied. Quicker if left in the sun. It's also available in a spray can for touch ups and small projects...and available in Olive green.

I couldn't find the Olive in the gallon can locally when I did mine so I used black since the mat covers it. I'll go around the edges that the mat doesn't cover with a can of the Olive though. Advance Auto should have this on the shelf.

I see you moved the seat for some recline space, if you had not would it have provided more belly room than the stock seat?
I think the seat thickness at the lumbar position may be a tiny bit smaller, but not sure you would make a noticeable amount of space unless you were at 90degrees upright.

Pulled out the mat and scrubbed it clean. Got the hose, broom, huge bottle of Dawn soap and went to work on removing 25 years worth Of dust and sand that collected in all the nooks and crannies. Disconnected the two batteries so I could clean and remove seats. Left them in there so I can easily hook up and start and run the truck.

I was quite pleased with the condition of the floor. Some rust at the edges, but that is to be expected. I'll hit it with a handheld wire brush first to see what comes up, and use a cup wire brush on an angle grinder on difficult parts. In all, very nice cab.

I commented in another thread that I want to convert one to a double cab. Maybe this one? It's a great start. I like the truck so far. Very clean, runs great, starts immediately, drives great, no real problems that I see yet. It's a truck you use to build off of as your one "Keeper". Although, I really love the 923A2 in Idaho that we are using as our Mission 22 Truck. It is a gem! I might cry if I had to sell that one. ( www.mission22truck.org if you haven't seen it yet. Yes, I did ask permission from the moderator first about spreading the word about our non-profit fundraiser. )

i just noticed this truck is running 16's! I bought a set for my camo truck. Just don't have the energy to install them!

I just bought a gallon of Monstaliner to spray the cab. I removed the seat and batteries yesterday and I built a center console for it. (Not installed yet) At the moment, it sits with an empty cab, waiting on me to do something.

I'm still really debating getting a stall mat and doing exactly what you recommend. Using cardboard and a glue gun to piece together a template.

I am am building an adventure trailer as well, maybe I'll spray the undercarriage of the trailer with the Monstaliner and buy a mat for the truck instead. The Monstaliner is really awesome stuff, but not cheap at $145/gallon. So I need to find a good use for it if I'm not going to spray the truck.

Its been so darn hot lately I don't want to do anything to the truck!

im not gonna lie. I had to physic myself up like I was some kindda power lifter when I was mounting mine up.
I bet! I have 3 unmounted and 4 mounted on MRAP wheels. You can't budge the ones mounted on wheels.

The ones I bought are brand new. 4 were mounted on rims but never on a truck. All of them have whiskers on the center lugs still, those wear off within 20 miles or so. I'm happy with the tires, but not looking forward to mounting them!
