I feel left out with my XM813, can I call it an A0? Then when I single it and put air brakes on it with ABS I can call it an A1 and then when I put CTIS and a Cummins 6CTA(zero of course) in it I can move on up to an A2.

Clinto; What would an M923 be called if it had 11.00's on it? Even if it had the A1 designation. Not that I know for sure ,but I've seen trucks for sale under the A1 designation for sale with the duals. I understand and agree with your heads analogy, but for an entire vehicle with multiple different configurations, the comparison to me isn't a fair one to make. What are the differences between the models? IS it just more than the spare tire carrier and the positioning of the bed? There is also a difference in the exhaust mount, not that is a major thing, but yet it is a difference. So for the community ( even new guys like myself that recently found the difference) what should we call them? Just M923?

Yes, just an M923, if that is what you have.

It's listed on the data tag, and the NSN number and in the -10TM.

M923 (2320-01-050-2084), M923A1 (2320-01-206-4087), M923A2 (2320-01-230-0307),

The second number is the NSN (National Stock Number).

This is straight from the -10TM.

M939 series, which includes vehicles like your M923 and others like M925, M927, M936, etc. are like this-I'll use your M923:

M923: dualled 11:00s, NHC250.
M923A1: super single tires, NHC250
M923A2: super single tires, 8.3 turbo engine.

Of course there are smaller difference between the various models, but the above is really the important stuff.

If you saw a truck with the A1 designation with duals, then either it's plated wrong, titled wrong or (most likely), the owner sold the singles and converted it to duals.

And yes-there are lots of difference between the M923, M923A1 and M923A2 models. The correct thing to refer to your vehicle as would be M923. This tells readers your truck has the 250 and duals. If you've converted your truck to singles, you still technically have an M923, you've just modified it. If I were asking a technical question and the tires were relevant, I'd still refer to the vehicle as an M923 and tell readers you have converted it to singles.

Nothing comes up with a Google search. What is it?
Holy cow batman! My Google is stronger than Doghead on this. It is a M931A2 with a armored cab and this is where the confusion came in at shelby. Someone was sorting trucks and had A0, A1, A2, A0P1, A1P1, A2P1 listed to sort them out.

But there is no A0!

As stated earlier I apologize for leading so many astray and Bow to the almighty moderators for my beatings.

This thread title is confusing and uses incorrect nomenclature, I think.

M939 is a series of trucks, not a specific model, therefore there is no suffix applicable(AO, A1, A2).
Doghead the suffix would be used to separate the different trucks within the series, as in turn in of all M939 and M939A1 trucks but not to include any M939A2 trucks.
How about we post a reward for anyone with a truck data plate that has M9XXA0 (in the M939 series of trucks) on the dash. No, not a made up replacement either.
Won't find that Unicorn but I can find you a M9XXP1. If they have not all been destroyed.

Please consider attending the 2015 Georgia Rally for a good ole' fashioned public flogging.

We can do it Friday night, Saturday night we Flog the Bobber crowd right after we eat Unicorn for supper.

I agree the "A0" designation doesn't exist but it is helpful when teaching people who have no experience in the military field or hobby. Saying M923, M923A1, M923A2 out loud gets tiresome and confuses them with all the numbers being spurt about not to mention all the other models of that series. I'm all for correctness for those within the hobby as we can spurt off M##A# and know exactly what we're talking about but for the common Joe they can't keep up. When I'm asked the differences between the m939 series trucks I go "There are 3 variants of the m939 series truck (or m923 if we are talking about it specifically). The base M923, which we will call the "A0" model, is blah blah blah." At the end of the comparisons I'll remind them the designation "A0" doesn't actually exist as it's just the base truck. Zero -> non-existent -> no designator.

I believe the A0P1, A1P1, etc designators are interesting and wouldn't be surprised to run across more.

Yeah fuzzytoaster I have used it so often it will be hard to stop. You won't find a A0P1 it will be just M939P1. I also believe that the P stands for protection. What I find odd is that nobody has come up with a E1 or E2 or XM939 that I know of, I have seen many trucks that should have one of those designations but doesn't, I believe that the speed of prototyping has gotten to the point that the military NSN and designation system cannot keep up.

Can you call an M151 a Jeep?

An M151A0, specifically.

People are going to do as they choose. An example is the 1964.5 Mustang, there is no such thing. Just early production and late production, but the world insists that there is a "64.5 but I have NEVER seen a title that said that. Now as for the M939 series of trucks how about just letting people know that an M923 is a first generation or early production truck, the A1 is the second gen. or mid production, and the A2 is the third gen or final production. I am also guilty of calling mine an A0 because I found if I don't some one will inevitably ask, "A1 or A2?" Now let muddy the waters, What is the the proper designation of the "Frankencabs?"
