Don't make it too hard, Gimp. All he needs to do is set them in place and extend them up close but not too close (say, an inch or two below the bumper), then hoist away. He'll get a little compression of the suspension while he's lifting and has the load waaay out there, and the stands will engage. Once he sets the load in place and the weight is in front of the axle, the truck should lift enough to take the pressure off the stands and let them drop.

Looks nice! I agree with Marcus, stands are there to take "extra" weight from extended boom. As long as they have a "hard" surface to brace against, should be good to go. Nice stow away of the farm jack too! Those are dangerously darn handy! LOL
