Sounds like the seller is going beyond his responsibility to help you. A seller like that is a great thing to find. You treat him right and he will treat you right.

Mine will down shift fine but will not go into 4th for any amount of suffering I thought it might be a synchro but my best rpm matching shifts just grind. , any 's

Shifter linkage worn or out of adjustment?

Any tips for getting the dang pilot bearing out?

I've removed them in other trucks by filling the cavity with grease and finding a rod that fits the bearing. Drive on the rod and the grease will push it out. Old shadetree fix .
