Did some serching, found nothing. Where is the best location to put an aftermarket temp sensor, i.e. the mechanical ones with the large npt fitting and probe, on a 318?

Thanks in advance

Always install temp senders at a location as close to the coolant outlet, (stat housing), as possible. That will be the place where the coolant is hottest.

Thanks for the info, but i guess i should have been more clear.
I want to know where the aftermarket sensor fits, being it has the large size npt fitting, and i have been unable to locate a coolant port opening large enough.
Wondered if anybody else had used this style of mech gauge before and where they installed the probe.

i just picked up a new coolant temp gauge and am having the same problem, there is a plug on the radiator that looks like an adaptor could fit but then it would only tell you the temp of coolant in the radiator and not the temp of the coolant in the engine, ill be in a full shop this weekend rewiring my dash for new gauges and I may be able to post some pictures of how i did it

Matt I have a sender and temp gauge sitting in the dually you could look at. It is a smaller sender and might fit better. It would be fully electric tho. Come and get it. They are at CQ if you decide you want one. -AndrewH

Some small block Mopar manifolds do not have suitable places to put in a typical sender for a aftermarket gauge. You may try looking for a temperature adaptor from Autometer:

Other than that about the only choices you have is to eliminate the heater hose outlet and put it there, or drill an tap a new hole.
