Air Compressor Air Filter?

I never noticed this before, but there is what appears to be an intake tube on the rear of the air compressor. I'm guessing this is an air intake? It is a hollow metallic tube but there is nothing on the end of it. Is there supposed to be some sort of an air filter on the end of it to prevent debris from getting into the compressor?

there are two bolts that hold a filter in the housing , undo the two bolts and pull it out ,be careful its spring loaded , clean it up and re-install.

I'm not sure either... Mine is set up the same way. I added a line to suck brake line antifreeze for winter driving through an old wind shield washer reservoir (air bubbling through that pretty much cleans up any dust). But I think some folk will run the air intake line to the lone hole you will find in your air filter - which I believe when everything is properly vented to this location makes the deuce a water fording beast (esp with a snorkel).... but I have been known to make things up and create wild assumptions based on hearsay knowledge...... ;)

So if I'm understanding this correctly, the filter is inside the unit itself and the intake hole is supposed to be bare and leads to this internal filter?

Yes, that is the intake for the compressor. For fording, you run a hose from there to the tube that is welded to the air filter cansiter that way your compressor is pulling air down your snorkel.
