Air filter modifications - minor work & $$$

Doesn't work well with the front battery. You have to move or reorient that battery to gain clearance for the tube and the air baffle in the core support.

That said you can build the same thing for less. Mine cost me about $20.

If you are using the the Mil spec batteries, you are correct... but with store bought batteries I think it wold work.

Do you know what banks is charging for that setup? I never asked.

If you have any skills one could make that larger intake from some sheet metal... the rest can be found on the shelf and wrecking yard.

I made a similar mod to what AJMBLAZER did. took the cold air intake tubbing/ducting from a stock 88 GMC Jimmy with a 350 popped out the plug on the radiator core support and ran the ducting up to the air cleaner. Didn't really notice any difference. But I supposed it didn't hurt. Hopefully when I get my snorkel setup on, that should make a difference. If nothing else though it will look cool.

6-7 years ago it was over $100.

I kick myself for buying group 31 batteries a month before I did my mod and had to reorient the front battery.

I'm about to pick up my new to me M1028a3.

So I made a second K&N top. The 24 x 24 inch 22 gauge sheet was $18.48 and the 1/8 inch x 1 1/2 inch x 3 ft strap was $5.86 - for a grand total of $24.34 and a couple of parts I have on hand (rivets & J B Weld). The second one took about an hour to make, start to finish.

So it's not that bad. I'll let you know after I drive the M1028a3 back. I'm hoping to get better MPG on the 1600+ mile trip back.

why do you need the strap steel piece?

I used a set of curved blade tin snips. This is only 22 gauge steel, so it was fairly easy.

You don't need the strap steel. But it gives you solid support under where the holes are drilled out. That puts the pressure of screwing the two wingnuts down into place across the whole surface in line with the two bolt holes cut into the sheet steel. Like I said, I'm a belt and suspenders kind of guy. Kind of like did I need to use JB Weld AND rivets. No, I did not. But I did.

Does any of this help? The more I try and explain, the less clear it becomes.

i run the lids upsidedown and if you wanted a bigger filter stack stock ones up and put threded rod in place of the factory bolt
