Alabama Title

I’m sorry if this is covered in another post, I searched “Alabama title” but I didn’t find anything when I was looking yesterday.

Will Alabama title a Hmmwv with a SF97? Or will they title a Hmmwv with another states title?

I really want a Hmmwv but there aren’t a ton in Alabama right now, I see some in Georgia and SC but I am not sure if I can get a valid Alabama title. I would assume if it’s titled as an on road vehicle in Alabama already, I probably wouldn’t have an issue. I really just want to get one from an auction but it seems a little complicated. I’d settle for getting one from another state but I’d hate to get a 8k lb paperweight.

Thanks for any input

Great first post!!!!

Seriously.

You're making sure you don't buy a paperweight.

Welcome.

?? Aren’t you just a delight. I searched, couldn’t find anything and the only person selling in alabama on the forum has jeeps that are old enough that they can’t comment. Multiple sites say they have no data for Alabama.

Your comments aside, there is no data linking Alabama to issues.

Lack of data isn’t confirmation.

Yes they will title them....either way.
Thanks. I haven’t been able to confirm, there’s a few websites that have data but no data points specifically for Alabama. Do you know this firsthand or from other members?

I was tempted to get a Jeep since I know them pretty well, at least zjs, wjs and TJ’s but I figured why not get something different.

Here is from a guy on Facebook that's been dedicating himself to getting state governments to follow the rules and license them.

Alabama is showing no legal reasons why they can't be titled, but that doesn't mean the person working the counter at your local licensing office isn't clueless about this, and refusing to help you just to cover their own butt or not have to work any harder than necessary.

Thanks, I hadn’t seen that one before. I haven’t had a lot of free money over the years but I’m somewhat comfortable right now and I’d like to get something fun. I was reading various articles throughout the years, I’ve seen titled ones in Alabama but I really didn’t know if the person just knew someone at the dmv, I never was able to talk to them.

Southern states and Texas usually don’t really care about things like this but you never know when it comes to the feds pressuring the states and when a military contract and terms are involved.

I purchased mine with a valid Alabama title and registration. I live in Florida so I transferred it to Florida, but I believe having a valid title and registration may have helped my case. I am unsure of what the person I purchased it fro had to do, but I know he purchased the HMMWV from auction and was able to get a title and registration for it in Alabama.

I have brought all kinds of different situations to my DMV....as long as it has proof of past ownership (sf97, or past registration from an individual) and a bill of sale... there has been no troubles. One thing they are 100% picky about is there being two witness signatures on the bill of sale if from an individual. Yes first hand in Baldwin county. 4 deuces, 2 hmmwv, 2 M923a2....over a few years.

That looks very nice and a good price but I’m looking for a 4 door and the conversion with everything is a little expensive now, I want to say around $1500 when I checked and that’s without any seats. Tempting but I have a guy near me with a 4 door for 13k I think and I’m mulling it over.

The 4 speed though...haha.

Wow, you definitely have some toys. Haha. Thanks for the info, I am going to call my local dmv just to see if they’ve handled one or another mv before, I am in auburn. I really want to get one off govplanet, they have some NICE slant backs.

Futile gesture. What they tell you today will bear no resemblance to what they actually do when you walk in to title and register.

This has been my firsthand experience with more than one DMV.
That really is the problem, there has been such conflicting info depending on the year, state, dmv office that it’s hard to get a definitive answer, if it was any other vehicle I’d understand that you’d think I was an idiot but after seeing what happened to some people in MI, I’d rather try to be safe and ask stupid questions, hopefully to get more recent info.

Thanks for the info. Florida is one of those states I think I’d definitely not want to get a title with a sf97, I’m guessing it might depend on the dmv office but Florida reminds me more of a northern government. I had issues with a car I bought with a title in Pompano.

Hello, previous posts of yours indicate you have had luck getting HMMVEs titled in Alabama. Any specific steps you can advise on? I’m looking at buying either a government auction vehicle (I l ow many of those sites indicate they can provide appropriate forms to get titles in MOST states) or a private seller - but it only has a bill of sale. Any feedback is appreciated. I also live in Baldwin County (Orange Beach).
