An American HMMWV in Canada

I bought this truck March 13 2020 from Government Auction out in California.

Not a word of a lie………it just showed up on a flat deck here in Canada 2 days ago.

I have a family now, my Deuce just didn’t fit the bill.
Its adventures are not over, only just beginning I hope.
However this HUMVEE will provide more options for when I need a couple extra seats and a little more nimbleness.
I’ll post a few more pics shortly. For now the focus is getting her flashed up.

I don’t have much hope but the old sun baked batteries on the maintenance charger tonight.
I’m going to flush the fuel system and change the oil then hit the ignition system.

I welcome any advice or suggestions. If you have any spare parts please reach out, even if it’s just a sack of bolts.

I really look forward getting this truck back into service.

So,

I ended up jump starting the truck using the Deuce.
2 new batteries for the parts list.

Before I tried to do so I did the following:

-Drained the fuel tank of contents. Destroying the drain plug in the process. My truck came missing the fuel fill cap.
1 new fuel tank drain plug on the parts list.
1 new fuel cap for the parts list.

-Checked the fuel filter. It looked surprisingly good. The entire engine compartment does really. Belts and hoses look free of cracking or wear.

-Oil change. While in the process I noticed the entire dip stick and tube assembly is missing from my truck. I stuffed a bolt in there for now and hope it stayed clean in there.
With a bit of fresh fuel and the deuce providing the power the truck fired right up. No ticks, bangs, squeaking, rattling of any kind. Very happy!

I picked up two new civilian batteries. I bought batteries that would fit within the stock battery box and hold downs.

The ultimate goal is to nearly daily drive this truck.
Stockish outside military appearance with all the comforts a military surplus HUMVEE can provide.

In the back ground a flurry of debt has been racking up lol

My poor credit card. Unfortunately due to my location I have no choice.

I wish my local Walmart had an entire section of HUMVEE parts…..like they do in

anyhow,

I purchased:
-4 new smittybuilt seats. I went with the black woven style. Unfortunately my truck didn’t come with either rear seat box covers or the battery box cover.
plus 3 seat box covers for the parts list.

-4 Surplus Baja T/A’s. These tires all have 2018 and newer manufacturing date and are brand new unused.

-new wiper motor. I tried to bring my old one back to life but it was KIA. These bast$rds are not cheap.

-New Lens’ for the trucks lights.

-Deep water fording dip stick and tube.

-4x8 sheet of 1/4 aluminum
-4x8 sheet of 1/8 aluminum
(Looks like a landmine went off under the driver’s side floor board. Soldier A might have high cantered it). Basically I’m making a underbody skid plate and a new floor pan.
I’ll explain later.

-fuel cap, brake proportioning valve, air box cover and clamp, keyed ignition, fuel tank drain plug, fuel filter,

-window former. Somebody took this off the truck? WTF lol

-mirror bracket and mirror

-battery box cover with two rear seat covers

-A friend ordered 4 aluminum half doors for me. Local shop cut and bent them up. I just need to install the door handles.


Things I still need:
-Four man soft too and bulk head. I’ll take any colour except tan. Green or Camo, if you have one reach out please.
-wiper blades
-heater ductwork
-antenna mounts
-front brush guard
-Electric winch hand controller
-C pillar


To justify spending the money I’m telling myself “It’s still cheaper then buying a new Ford”

I started with the tires. I hoisted the truck up on the car lift. That was a little tricky in its self lol. The truck felt front heavy and the frame being so far inboard it required a few adjustments before I was comfortable lifting.
After doing some reading and my intentions being to off road the truck it was decided to remove the run flats.
Primed and painted the rims. Nice new Flat Black.

Soldier B really torqued those lug nuts on. Good Grief.

while I was in there I checked the hubs and changed the gear oil. Finished up with a fresh coat of rubberized paint. Wire brush, brake clean wash and a blast of this paint. It covers everything

I have this style of Antenna mounts. I have black or green.
I also have a new soft top c pillar , nos wiper blades, and I have the angle iron style brushguard.

I have shipped to Canada several times so shipping isnt a problem. C pillar is expensive to ship though.

The truck is getting painted this weekend.

I went with some smitty built seats. Aside from some spacers and drilling new holes these seats are drop in. Perfect for what I need.
the drivers seat required a bit more work. Mainly a couple spacers and mounting plates. I reused the height and front to back adjustable seat base used for the military high back seats. Mine had one of the handle busted off so I welded a new one on.
From there I went to work on fixing the floor board. The plan is to cut the deformed aluminum floor out. Install a large 1/4 inch thick aluminum skid plate under the floor board, then cut and form up a new floor pan out of 1/8” aluminum. Then Through bolt it.
New floor with underbody protection!

I made new bumpers front and back too! Ill post more pictures on my design later. The 2x2 tubing is just for check level and straightness. It isn’t part of the bumper

When I bought this truck off of the auction site it wasn’t specified what engine or drive line was in the truck. The description just said V8 diesel.
Turns out I have the 6.5 with 10K axles.

In the picture of the air box above, there are two hoses, they look like vent lines. Would anyone be able to tell me what they are for? The remains of a deep water fording kit?

Great work on this project! You may get more responses if you create a new post in the HMMWV section. I suspect many people only follow threads for vehicles they own.

Good progress.
Finished the bumpers painted them and installed Front and back. They are pretty heavy duty. I ended up customizing my design for the rear bumper. I removed the pintle hitch and fabricated a mounting plate. I tied that plate into the rear bumper. That made up the spine for for the receiver hitch I welded on. Eventually I will fab up a swing arm spare tire carrier.

I ended up needing to space the front bumper forward two inches because they made contact with the tire’s at full lock. I will be adding supplemental LED lights to the bumper after it passes inspection.
I made them to have some give. Lighter mounts and I didn’t sleeve the through bolts.

I finished up the floor repair. I added a 1/4 aluminum skid plate on the underside then through bolted right up into the 1/8 new floor pan. I zipped cut down the excess threads and sealed the outer edges.

then moved onto mounting the new seats onto the factory high back seat base. Used a couple 2“x 1/4” alum FB and just drilled some holes in the right spots.
