The head gaskets blow out when water enters the combustion chamber. Found out the hard way during "sargeant's time". The lesson of that week was recovery using HEMMTTs. There was about a foot of exhaust pipe sticking out of the water. I had the pleasure of changing the head gaskets. The fire rings looked like a 4 leaf clover when I pulled them out. Back in my 63B days in the early 90's .ken said:Just rember these engines have weak head gaskets. And head bolts/studs love to stretch. Don't be suprised if you end up with a cylinder head in your lap at 15psi.
