I just got a picture from my M998's overhaul at tag, however I am stumped, I assume it is the Maine Facility, it has a Maine sticker on the dog house, however sticker is White State with Black lettering, others I've seen were a Black State with white lettering, Not a big deal but what has me confused is the Overhauled at: M R S M S.

I attached pic's.

Ok so it would be safe to say ... Maine Readiness Sustainment Maintenance Site (MRSMS)

Thanks, I ran a search here, google and asked a friend but nothing.

RSMS facilities are state government owned, civilian run maintenance shops where the government sends thousands of trucks for overhaul right before they auction them off.

Excellent, thank you very much, so maybe I got a good one. I have heard good things about the Maine site as far as rebuilds. Mine has the 6.5L GEP engine, anyone know if they install new engines, rebuilt engines or take outs from other units ? Once she arrives I will have a better look at her and maybe find more info.

Thanks for the help

When they replace the engines, they get one out of a can. Engines in a can are either new or reman.

Typically, RSMS trucks are the best ones, at least in the 5ton world.

Good to hear, as far as I can tell she started life in 1986 (based on SN range, DoM is not readable on Data Tag in photo) so I assume she had a 6.2L engine installed originally, the overhaul tag show's an overhaul date of 09/2004, She now has a 6.5L GEP engine installed so hope it is a new engine.

My 5 ton was rebuilt by Red River in 2011, for the most part she has been a good girl, only a few issues from sitting so long before I got her.

Can't wait to get her in the garage and start checking her over.

RRAD was an IROAN site. Quality there varies from excellent with new engines, to "only paint, and that over rust". The RSMS trucks are noticeably and consistently better.

The motor in your hmmwv will have a date tag on it and you can tell when it was made. As noted, it's certainly not original to the truck. Whether new or reman, there'll be very little difference - a properly reman engine will perform and last like a new one.

I'll be picking up a 1986 M998 that went through the Maine RSMS in 2004. I haven't looked at RSMS hmmwv's in any great detail prior to this. I'll let you live vicariously through mine while waiting for your EUC...

98G, I'd love to hear what you find, mine is an '86 also, 2 door cargo/troop version, overhauled 09/04, sounds like they may have gone thru together. Please let me know what you find when you pick her up, I wont get my EUC for another couple months....at least.
