Attributes of a lower mileage HMMWV

I'm looking for insights on where to look to get an idea about high versus low mileage on my M1123. I know that parts are changed out frequently by the military.

The story (they all have a story but they won't talk!) was a quiet life in Yuma with little use. Why would a low mileage truck be surplused? I am the third owner outside of the military. The truck was registered and titled in PA and NC. The build date on the truck is December 2003.

The tires seem to have lots of rubber left (see picture). All four tires have the same production date (4703) Could they be the original tires (see picture)?

The odometer says 615 miles (see picture). There is a bar tag on the bottom of the gage cluster with the serial number.

I included a picture of the brake pedal.

I tossed in some pictures of under the hood. Some dates were written on the inside. I know this has nothing to do with mileage but may be interesting marks from the assembly line.

The window washer pump and soft top have 2008 dates.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts

Military equipment has a usable life. Easiest way to measure that life is years from date of acquisition.
Many of the trucks seem to have a 10 year rebuild, then surplused out at 20 years from acquisition.

My truck had on it's decal that it was reset at 26 miles, and auctioned off at 32 miles. Serial number indicated manufacture date around 1999 or so, reset in 2010, and auctioned off in 2019.

I find it rather unlikely that the tires are the ones it had on it in the military as they also have a service life, and are commonly replaced due to age. Not impossible, but highly unlikely. There was an issue with the MT/R tires blowing out, and a directive came down to replace tires at 5 years old to prevent issues. Not sure if that ended up being for all tire types or just the MT/Rs though.

Regarding military odometers, since the standard gauges themselves are easily swapped when they fail (which they tend to), the only thing that can be reliably said about indicated mileage is that is how many miles are on that particular gauge, not necessarily the vehicle.
That said, they are usually correct on Marine Corps vehicles.

You would have to look at the overall condition of the vehicle to make a decision on whether or not the odometer is correct. If the vehicle has an hour meter, a good rule of thumb is 10 miles on the odometer for each hour on the clock.

Some vehicles are received new and assigned to a unit that, because of their mission, rarely drives them, or they were placed in storage for emergencies (war reserve stock); so it is quite feasible to find one that is 20 years old and only driven an actual 615 miles. Rare, but they are out there.

Cheers

From what I see you look to have a nice original unrebuilt 2003 M1123. The brake pedals seemed to get sprayed green during rebuild. 03 tires with ink still present. All fasteners clean and not caked with paint . No hint of dirt or mud in any cracks or crevices. Everything points to low mileage original.

Lets see pics of the whole truck!
