Backup camera solution?

I have the x1pro and like it. It can be left in a rear view mirror mode while driving which is what I wanted. Works well in low light and does record about 3 days worth of front and rear video on a 64gb card in good quality. Has software on the card you can run on your computer which shows gps location, elevation, in sync with the video.

You can view video playback on the mirror, though fast forward is not available on the mirror itself - only when using the computer software which is one drawback I found. Installation was easy - do need 12v though.
Did you have issues hooking it up due to the 24v system?

Any additional detail would be helpful

I have a dual voltage alternator so have 12v available. I expect a 24-12 converter would work fine too, don't think it's much of a current draw.
Wiring is pretty easy, 12v and ground to mirror, small wire to gps antenna mounted externally, cable to camera, and optional wire to reverse switch (I have it wired to a toggle for now)

I went the simple route and found a dual camera system with monitor intended for big rig / 18 wheeler trucks (24 volt) for maybe $100 on Ebay.
The rear camera is directly above the pintle hitch and automatically comes on - turns the screen on when the truck is put into reverse. The front
camera is mounted under the hood grille and can come on with a touch of a button on the side of the monitor itself. Makes parking this thing in Chicago a lot easier...

Did you add a switch to your gear shifter to link to the camera so it "knows" when you are in reverse?
I have some neutral switches and was going to do that, but decided that I like being able to manually control the camera regardless of where I'm in reverse or not.

Just saw this 12v-24v wireless backup camera on sale today 20% off at Amazon... https://amzn.to/2P9jYGd
I went with a bigger screen, but it looks like a pretty clean option for someone that doesn't want to run extra wires, assuming you have added reverse lights to tap into to power the camera.

I did indeed. Not as hard as you would imagine. Bought a reverse switch from a Humvee ambulance to get my reverse lights going. Just pigtailed the positive and negative from that switch to the camera setup. Works like a charm.

What is the part number or name of this switch and how much it cost? Who is selling this switch?

I'd imagine it would be the same as the reverse light switch for the shifter; there are plenty of threads about doing that upgrade.

I think I saw where Michael Vaden at Black Dog Customs has a reverse switch kit.

Also have this in my notes I copied off some board someplace:

Reverse light switch:

"I found the switch on eBay that already has the 3/4-16 threads. It is a Massey Ferguson Starter Safety Switch Part Number 181140M94 for $11.04 shipped free

So, that switch should be readily available at tractor parts stores.

Like here, http://www.tractorpartsinc.com/masse..._4486_prd1.htm

And here. And the description tell all the tractors it fits(for finding at local shops).

Something else to think about is if you even want it on a switch. Mine is wired to always be on when I'm driving and it works great since there is no rearview mirror. I actually mounted my monitor up by the wiper motor so I is more less where a rearview mirror would be anyway.

Mine was wired this way when I got it and I admit that at first I thought that I was not going to like it as it would be distracting, but I've learned to love it, but I have to remember that the depth perception in the camera is not the same. Also I do have to turn the brightness down at night sometimes or I simply just turn the monitor off if it is too bright at night when I'm driving. Nor really an issue as where Have it mounted it is well within reach so it is as simple as a push of a button either on the monitor or on the remote.

I know it's an old thread but that seemed to be the most appropriate (and only?) one that covered the camera topic.
Visibility when backing up with the slantback is close to none, maybe it's simply because I'm not used to it yet, but I confess a solid multi camera system would be awesome.

Have you folks installed recent systems such as these LCD back mirror that are now stock in certain SUVs?

I did a custom camera mount that I made and mounted in the tire carrier. I used this system https://www.amazon.com/WOLFBOX-Mirror-Backup-Camera-Screen/dp/B0811Q28N6 It is a single rear camera but centrally mounted I have no complaints. I upgraded the camera and would use this one today https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B1LLMCS9/ref=sspa_dk_detail_0?pd_rd_i=B0B1LLMCS9
Here are links to my install.
The camera mount starts here and is covered in 6 posts https://www.steelsoldiers.com/threads/my-new-1992-m998-avenger.184818/page-9#post-2363783
I mounted the display/mirror in my visor here, 2 posts https://www.steelsoldiers.com/threads/my-new-1992-m998-avenger.184818/page-12#post-2409464
I used a 12v converter and wired and tested it here, 3 posts https://www.steelsoldiers.com/threads/my-new-1992-m998-avenger.184818/page-13#post-2411292
It's a Dash Cam, GPS speed and backup camera that I leave on and use as my Rear view Mirror also.
