well it happened, one of the guys took our m009 from the highway garage this morning and the starter relay blew and stuck on.this made the starter crank out of control.trying to get battery cables with fingers is not fun.starter fried.going to put some kind of disconnect switch on the batteries so we shut down the whole system quickly.oh yeah it also burnt on of the fusible links to the bus bar,

I put the disconnect in the 24V line going to the starter solenoid. The switch is in the cab so I can reach it right away.

While cranking the engine with the key (simulating stuck relay) a flip of the switch kills the voltage to the starter solenoid and the starter stops.

That or the doghead starter relay modification.

This happened to me yesterday and i was unable to kill the circuit before starter fried. would i need to replace the entire starter or just the solenoid?

I leave the relay hanging down by the accelerator pedal so I can yank it fast if this happens. Is there such a thing as a good day electrically with a CUCV??? If it's not the start circuit, it's the charging system, and/or the glow plug system.

I had a good day electrically yesterday working on my 1008. I pulled the instrument cluster and cleaned all the terminals on the connector. Now my fuel gauge works along with all the dash lights so I can read the fuel gauge and speedo at night.

Solved my intermittent problem with Gen 1 light not coming on too (which is why I pulled it in the first place).

Later,
Joe
