Bad injection pump?

M923a2 with cummins 8.3

I believe I have a bad injection pump. I'm kind of at the point where I don't know how else to test the culprit. Batteries are strong fuel shut off solenoid is working properly I've banged around on the protective control box. the engine will crank strong and I good fuel pressure it seems going out of the secondary filter.

The engine won't even sputter or cough with shot of ether.
I Think something may be plugged up inside the injection pump because if I pump the priming pump I don't hear the swishing sound of the fuel going all the way through and then going down the return hose Once it' primed and you keep pushing the priming button. Once Its primed if I crack the bleeder valve on the secondary fuel filter it'll spray out like it's under a lot of pressure as opposed to gravity.

Is there a chance that something is plugged or stuck in the injection pump not allowing it to flow all the way through and is that something that I might be able to fix well still mounted or am I looking at replacing the IP.

I have already replaced rubber fuel lines from tank and filter and changed the filters as well.

Have you opened the bleeder on the back side of the IP when you prime it?

Bingo, problem solved, I love the site. I was under the impression that these pumps would self bleed when you primed them or cranked Them over.
Motor sputtered then fired right up after bleeding that. Once running I noticed a strange sound coming from the muffler and realized that my shipper covered the exhaust pipe with duct tape and I didn't even notice it which I'm sure wasn't helping.

I have seven trucks sitting in my driveway and I guess you stop noticing some of the small simple stuff with so many of them around.

I would not have known the proper bleeding procedure either, without reading the TM.

I helped a guy once on the side of the freeway that ran his 923A2 out of fuel. We poured in 10 gallons of diesel and I worked the primer while he cranked the engine over. After about 15 seconds, it coughed and sputtered to life. Within a minute it was running like nothing ever happened. So it definitely bled it's self.

Bosch inline pumps are indeed self priming. Rotary, not so much.

Couldn't agree more, the $15 a year is paid back hundreds of times over.
