Been a long time. Reinstalling head on Dads M1028, what size tap do I need for the bolt holes to run through it?

Hey guys it's been a long while but I'm about to reinstall the head on dad's M1028. Heard you have to put a tap in the threads before installing and putting new head studs in it. Do yall know what size tap to use for the stud holes before putting the rebuilt head on. I really appreciate this guys, wanting to see dad smile after it sitting for about 15 years. Appreciate any input and advice.

What size and thread pitch are the bolts? Match accordingly and you should be good!

If you are just chasing the threads, not cutting new, I would recommend using a rethreading set instead of a tap. It just cleans up the existing threads, rather than cutting new ones.

On other 6.2/6.5 forums people have used one of the old headbolts with slots cut into them to clean the threads. Don't forget to add sealant to the studs. Some go into wet holes.

I like to hit any blind holes with a little compressed air after chasing the threads.
