I just installed these Wellman ones (https://amzn.to/3uDp5VK) which appear to be exactly the same ones that came out of the truck. None of the old burned out ones showed even the slightest sign of swelling so that made me pretty happy if that means the new ones won't eventually swell.

Please don't buy any of the no name Chinese garbage. I have the Wellman and they have the part number stamped into the metal.

The simple solution is to buy them from either Kascar, HPG or MAC, than you can be assured your getting the correct plug…even though I continue to state this, I get trucks in the shop with blown Chinese unbranded garbage.

And don't forget to put never seize on the plug threads. I like the copper never seize as it handle higher temps.

How about these GEP18002668 glow plugs from HPG? It says:
" REVISED GLOWPLUG NON-SWELLING AND LONGER TIP FOR ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR END, ENGINEERED IN 2012 DURING P400 PRODUCTION AT AM GENERAL. HAS SPECIAL TAPERED TIP TO REDUCE SWELLING ISSUE. MADE IN GERMANY."

I seems that the so called non-swelling ones (perhaps the AG15? and also Kaskar?) have been discontinued and this may be another design trying to replace it? (thread from 2017 below)

According to Kascar there aren't glow plugs any more that are marketed as non-swelling. Perhaps this is old news or wrong, but as a newbie to diesels, I thought I'd try to save some poor sole reading through old threads and then searching for them. Perhaps there are less swelling brands. I would...

In this G503 thread some talk about those non-swelling plugs not working that well, they have some that pieces fell in the engine:
I can see how the tapered tip on the newer GEP design requires extra processing during manufacturing as they can't use a standard tube just cut to length, like on the straight ones, but it doesn't have a standard part number referenced to the NSN?
Also the 12338771 glow plugs sold by HPG and MacMotors show a 19207 CAGE code which is U S ARMY TANK AUTOMOTIVE COMMAND AMSTA-IM-MM (is what I think RWH may call "military issued" glow plugs). I have a hard time imagining that the Army is actually manufacturing these glow plugs and are not being outsourced, does anyone who is the actual manufacturer for the 12338771?

Current glow plugs from MacMotors are Wellman. I bought a set last fall, and another in December (as a backup set).

I've seen some knockoff Chinese plugs recently marked exactly the same as Wellman on the base, with a "380" on the hex. They have flaky plating and slightly different fonts, the hex is 10mm, and the angled seat fits tightly to the element instead of having a little clearance up to the internal o-ring. One of the good Wellman retailers verified by picture they were imitation crap. Mac, HPG, and Kascar are the best sources for genuine plugs.

Glow plugs I used are from MacMotors and authentic. The ones I removed from the block were Chinese knock-offs. They had the right thing stamped on them, but they failed early (installed by previous owner), and were 8mm instead of SAE, which made them really tough to remove from the block. Put in the "real thing", and after 1500 miles they still look new.
Stay with the real things, go to Mac, Kascar or someone else that can show they are real. If the hex is metric, they're NOT real.

Are the Chinese making any with the 3/8" hex or do they only make them with 10mm?
I had received a set of supposedly U.S. issue plugs and the did look good (no numbers on them) and when I found they were 10mm I did not use them. They were also more on the shiny than the real Wellmans. Pure junk coming for the Chicom.

In the fall, I will remove at least one plug and verify it looks "reasonable". (Not swollen, not damaged.). If in doubt, it gets replaced. At $8 a plug, engine or start box damage is a LOT more expensive.

I've personally only seen 10mm plugs as Chinese counterfits. All the US plugs are 3/8" hex. I'm not against Chinese manufactured parts, as long as they clearly label it as such... but you counterfeit something, I'm calling it like I see it -- garbage meant to deceive.. See 10mm glow plugs, run away.. and buy the real thing.
