What is the best way to hook up a 24 volt winch to a M1009? I was going to use the slave port on the front (I bought a plug) but is there a better way? Can it be hooked up to both batteries some how?

Yes, you can hook it up to both batteries or ground the negative to the chassis and run the positive to the rear batt.

Or connect to the 24v buss bar behind the rear battery. That is where the NATO plug is connected.

Take a look at the BV-206, the winch fits into a socket at the front or rear of the vehicle and powered from the slave receptacle , everything is quick on and off,

Going directly to the battery would probably minimize voltage loss in the cables under load. Personally, I run mine right into the slave port front and rear because I use a multimount winch. Makes for a clean install with minimal wiring. Plus I can transfer it to another CUCV in the future.

If you are looking for a really solid mount and permanent wiring, I probably would go right to the battery and redo those connections if they are original.
