Maybe get the members who are in violation to join your cause. Bring it up to them that you wanna buy a big truck like theirs but you are afraid of being in violation. Ask them if they would be willing to sign a petition to change the rule.

Your neighbors need to man up and get the HOA rules changed instead of hoping that they don't get caught.

Having served on several HOA committee years ago I can tell you that most will do nothing unless there is a complaint by someone. The fact others are in violation will not do much for your defense, try that logic with a cop when you are speeding and you are likely to get the "did you ever catch all the fish?" question. Your best bet is to approach the comittee and ask them for a variance to the rules for your vehicle. Once you have the variance you are good. Be sure to get it in writing. These people are your neighbors and volunteers you may be surprised how understanding they are.
