Bobbed deuce vs deuce

If it doesn't grab you by the collar and yell "Make me!" then it probably never will........ But, have you driven one yet? Me and Badga found a good sized mud puddle on a vacant lot the other day, the kind with a nice clay-kinda' mud in it? In two minutes it had me a-whoopin' an' a-hollerin' (hey, this is Texas) just like the 16 year old sitting next to me. It'd never had done that with the 3 axles on, not without scaring the heck out of me!
Haven't driven one yet - so I'm not saying I wouldn't change my mind. It would definitely have to have the original bed and lockers. It can't be just big and pretty it has to be useful for me.2cents

If you are looking for a SHTF vehicle only I would get an M109, that way you could sleep in it too or if you a buggin out your sht won't get wet!. Now it all depends on where you live I think.. My town code has a weight limit and length limit on any commercial vehicle. At the time I didn't know if I could register as Historical without a garage so I went with a bobbed version. If I lived somewhere without these restrictions I may have went with a 6x6.. However I do love my bobbed deuce! It's more than capable for anything that I will need to do..:D

So many trucks have been bobbed so badly...

I liken my feeling to Harleys. I used to like them... but now you couldn't pay me to ride one and be associated with some mid-life crisis case who doesn't know how to ride.

So many bobbers are hacked up, unsafe, overpriced and beat by idiots, I'm reluctant to consider one. When I see them.. it's more of a sense of "Oh, another one of those" and an eye roll.

No offense to the guys building them right, and enjoying their trucks how they see fit... the scene has just been tainted by flippers hacking up good trucks in a slipshod manner.

Wow guys! I can't thank you enough. I will do my best to get pics. I never imagined so many would be willing to help. My hobby since i was a kid has always been anything to do with military. I live in SC and have a little snow (but i work in the heating industry so we are open when nobody else is, so I want this to be my get to work in the snow vehicle). I have large hills in every direction from my house to work. I want this to get me to work and allow me to deliver propane tanks until 3 oclock in the morning.
From the other perspective, I feel the need to be able to run what ever SHTF vehicle on whatever is available at the time. We all no gas,deisel, kerosene will be the first to go. I want this to go up the side of a mountain, drive cross country, go thru the swamp, and just about everything between swimming and flying. And I need it to be indistructable. From what i gather these trucks are. I would assume any country boy with some good common sense could rig something to get it to keep on going in a bind.
So......That is why I am afraid of the bobbed. does it make it better or worse. It looks great, but does it perform. good point made is that the 6x6 has 5 xtra tires, didn't look at it this way. but turning radius may get you out of a bind a lot quiker.
....outa breath now, any more opinions? lol

Sorry, but a 4x4 bobbed duece with open axles compares poorly off road with a Unimog with Locking differentials. Blow yer wad on an S404.114 and save the pain of being towed out, but if your wad's bigger, get a U1300L diesel Unimog by all means...I've driven a stock deuce and a stock Unimog...the Unimog carries almost as much off road (4750 lbs versus 5000 with the deuce) and the U1300L is good for 8000 Lbs on or off road....And they handle better,too!2cents And as a SHTF vehicle, a Unimog with Ultra High speed axles beasts a deuce flat out for road speed.....

A deuce is a 2 1/2 ton off road truck, so there can not be a bobbed deuce since it is no longer a 2 1/2 ton off road truck, the only thing a bobber is after cutting up a deuce is a over size 4x4 PICKUP

i should mention i have several 6x6 deuces and went to the bobber because the other 6x6s were always getting stuck.as mentioned here its a matter of what you need in a truck.

My 2cents is what would you use it for? A bobber would be no use to someone that is planing to haul big loads, and that is what they are designed for. I personaly would not own one for they would not haul what I need them to. Each to there own and good luck`!!!!

I dont understand why someone would pick 4 or 6 wheels over 6 or 10 wheels.

If you have a bobbed deuce with 4 wheels and one goes flat youre stuck. I'd rather have 10 wheels and 3 axle truck.

Im not an expert on the subject matter but I'm keeping mine 10 wheels. I may upgrade to 1100s but thats after my tires wear out.

ALL I am saying is as the title of this thread a "bobbed deuce or deuce" , a cut up deuce to make a big 4x4 truck is no longer a deuce, If you want a big over sized 4x4 pick up, that's fine, just it can't be a bobbed "DEUCE"

Please note that the kinder/gentler me did not say one word about comparing cucvs in the above statement. :D

I love my bobber! I'm also love deuces! But I have no need for a deuce

My bobber is a toy to me that cost a lot less to own than a new F350 would have.

I have a Cat engine, Allison transmission, Rockwell rears no other truck offers.

Plus all of this for a 1/6 of the cost of a new F350 and I can do things the F350

could only dream of doing with a bobber.

I'm not a purest I'm a realist the bobber fills the need for what I want it for.

I don't bash or make fun of what anyone wants to own or drive it's there choice not yours.

Buy and Drive what makes you happy and don't worry about what your neighbors think.

You only live once and it's a short life, so go do what does it for you.

I'm with PROSTOCKTOM, mostly a toy for me and better than a new truck that's going to rust out from under me and cost 6x as much.. I like both 6 and 4 wheel versions.. however I have code enforcement issues in my area so I decided be within code and go with the 4x4 not that I would need a 6x6 anyway but it would be cool! So if a bobber is not considered a Deuce and a Half.. how about a Half a Deuce?2cents

1. Deuce and a half, or DEUCE, is a nickname, not an official moniker. What does it matter what other people call their trucks?
2. It is, in fact, a Bobbed Deuce, as a deuce has been shortened, or "bobbed", therefore it is a bobbed deuce just as a bobbed Harley is a bobbed Harley. Or does it somehow turn into a Kawasaki?
3. I've NEVER heard anyone claim that their bobbed deuce still has it's original carrying capacity. If carrying capacity is important to you then don't bob your deuce. Maybe buy a 5 ton. Since I want to be able to carry more stuff sometimes, I have an M105 to hook on back.
4. Maybe, just maybe, the goal of bobbing a deuce is because what you want is an over size 4x4 PICKUP. What is wrong with that? That is EXACTLY what I wanted and I got it.
5. If we called it an ACE-and-a-quarter, would this be OK?

HMM I've been thinking this very thing for some time. since we already have one on the farm pretty much stock it won't bother me so bad but still. My dd was a chevy 1 ton but it broke down on me for the last time so the duece is stepping up to fill its shoes. At the same time I'm looking at a 715 too so do I need a bobbed duece and a 715?... aua

I have both the 6X you cannot beat for hauling on or off road you will not overload it, the bobbed one fun to drive , will not carry near as much, had to add weight to the rear for extreme offroading , but love both2cents
