Bobbing "Loud & Proud"

Well I started to take the Deuce apart for the bobber. I'm not going to use the 12' cargo box, but instead I'll use a M-105 box. I like the way that both, a cut down cargo box and a M-105 looks, but I prefer the wheel well look on a shorty Duece.
To remove the box I unbolted the bolts that hold it on and undid the wiring for the trailer lights hook up. I then chained it to my M-104 trailer and drove out from under it. The box slid off rather nicely and uneventfull.
I'm going to run the truck in the local Memorial Day parade here in town so I best get a move on.

Good luck!,it will be fun once u get the ball rolling..mines about at the stage urs in is..

Got my leafs and hardware but no torch or plasma yet to start the cut :(

I'm wondering why you have the bed chained/strapped to the M105 trailer. Are you worried about the trailer blowing away in a tornado, Auntie Em?

Could there be anything more fun than letting a few tons of steel bed fall to the ground??
Watching a big ole M109 "box" encounter gravity is pretty kewl too. "Just drive out from under it" was the chatroom theme for the day. :)

Once you get past the rivets it's all down hill. And if you have a second set of hands that can handle the punch and bfh while you take care of the torch, they are not all that bad. Good luck and keep the pictures coming.

Here's some more. The beat up old Ford comes in handy at times. I made a spreader-bar to lift the trailer box evenly when I lifted with the wrecker. I'm using the trailer frame as well as the box. The welded on U-bolts that stick off the bottom, at all four corners of a M105 trailer frame made it easy to line the box and truck frame up. It centers the frames, so all you have to do is measure the distance between the cab and box that you want.

Sorry, I lost track of time and forgot to update this thread as I built it:oops: (I actually drove it today:-D)

I used the springs from the trailer for the conversion. So I got from others here, that it takes a 3 to 4" block under the trailer springs to make the truck sit level. So I made a 1 1/4" axle perch welded to the axle and I made an old school "traction lift" out of some 2 1/2" square tube with a 3/8" wall thickness. I'll see if it cuts down on spring-wrap, if not, it was at least worth a try. I also made the top plates out of 3/8" plate and welded on some 5/16x1 1/4" to the ends, like a typical spring/U-bolt plate. The U-bolts are 3/4"

I'm going to keep running the dual tires in the back of the Deuce. But I think it kind of looks funky with the M-105 box because of the width that the tires stick out past the fenders because the trailer box is narrower than the stock cargo box. To help compensate for this I'm making some "fender flairs" that I can bolt on, that way if I ever single it out I can just unbolt them and the rear fenders will be just as wide as the front fenders.

Here's my start on it. I'm using 2 1/2" 12 gage tube.

Here's some pictures of the finished widened rear fenders. I'm happy with the way they turned out and look, plus it gives the duals a little more coverage so they no longer stick way out.

I primed and then just spray-bombed them to some what match the box for now, some time in the future, the entire truck is getting painted back to it's original Vietnam era O.D. Green
