Bought my first Deuce, brakes seem weak

I'd recomend you use some type of hydraulic fluid. The air tool oil would do fine if you plan on going back into it within a 3-4 year time period (that's a WAG, you may never have to go back in). Hydraulic fluid used on tractors (front end loader) would be my recomendation. It's as close as your going to get to the original specs. I'm have to admit I'm not familiar with 6083. We used MIL-H-5606 and MIL-H-83282 on helicopters. The specs on these are extremely tight, no deviation allowed. the 6083 "appeared" to have some variation allowance; hence my recomendation to use tractor hydraulic fluid. You also don't have to worry as much about voltility as you do with the aircraft specific Hyd fluids. My

Air tool oil seems to be the standard oil used to lube the airpacks. This is from my research of course. But from the pictures of my airpack (which I intend to upload more) no lube was used on mine for many many years. Air tool oil may not be the best option but it is far better than nothing.
