Bow and tarp install , and spare tire info needed for M923!

I finally got around to trying to install the bows and tarp, but the forward most bow wouldn't go in all the way, seemed like it was way to narrow. I looked at my Tm that came with the truck and couldn't figure out if I actually need 5 or 6 bows. I'm sure it's 6 but the TM shows 5 in one pic and 6 in another. I also feel that the bows I did get in are way to low. I thought that a person should be able to stand up in the bed with the tarp on.Is that correct or not?

I also finally got my spare tire up to the tire mount, but it was way to wide to go into the slot. I know that if I remove the breather stack it will go in, but it just seems like its to much work than what it should be.Are the breather stacks located different on the A2's with 14.00 R 20's? Also if I move the stack location I'll have to remove the handle to enter the truck. Where is this located if different than the A1?

Thanks for any help!

6 bows and if you are 5'4" you can stand up.
Does you truck have singles or duals? Early 923s were dual-ed 11X20 and have a smaller spare carrier, A1 and A2 were singles 14x20 and have a heaver davit and wider carrier.

Could someone with an A2. measure the distance between the back of the cab in the front of the bed so I know how much to move the bed back! also would anyone have any ideas on how to reinforce the davit? thanks for any and all advice

the forward staves need to be inserted with the drop side lock out, then slip the stave in (must have hole drilled) then re lock drop side bed latch.

On my 923a2 it measures 23" from the cab to the bed and 20.5" from the intake stack to the bed in case yours is set up a little different. It may be hard to tell in the pictures though.

What does your davit look like? With the military's tendency to overbuild I wonder if it may be alright as is.

When I got home from work I checked to see if I could move the bed and of course I can't not easily anyway, So I think I found an alternative solution. When I get started on that I will post progress or failure. But on to the bows , I think the bows I have are the wrong ones. I'm thinking these may be for a duece. In the pics you can see that they don't really fit to well. I just hope that the tarp fits like it should. On the boom for the spare tire, I know I have to reinforce the boom because when I tried to lift the tire into position all the boom did was bend downwards. Which is why the support triangle in the picture came from. I figured I would get the tire in and work it out later.

tbar,
-you need to install the side racks first, then slide the staves into the side racks. Plus your truck was not an A1, you changed the wheels/tires out. Your spare carrier is for 11.00x20 tire. 14.00x20 tire utilize a larger carrier/davit assembly.

Jc, Thanks for the info, but I only have one troop seat and was wanting to put the tarp on for winter since it's stored outside. If I did have the other troop seat the staves wouldn't fit in it either. They are about 4" to narrow to fit in the slots.

I did some research and found on the deuce forum that the middle section or overhead section of the bow is a standard 74.5" for both the deuce and the 5 ton. So of course I measured mine and what do ya know 70" exactly. That is the reason why they won't fit or have a serious inward slant to them. Now that brings me to the question what would these bows fit? I bought the truck with these bows and tarp laying in the bed.So now I'm going to have to make a set that is the proper length,no big deal with that I have plenty of spare wood laying around and PVC pipe to steam them. Now I'm really worried if the tarp is going to be big enough!
