The axle breather is a normally closed affair, which opens when pressure within the axle exceeds about 1/2 psi or so. Not sure if it's a good application here. I actually leave my fitting kind of loose to protect the MC from splashing water only, easy to separate when the cap has to come off. It would have to be tightened for a fording op.
