Brakes, Out!

Hello Forum:

We are looking for some help. Our department recently acquired a 1967 Kaiser M109 A3. While driver training the other day the brake pedal went to the floor. We found no visible fluid leaks or line issues. A couple of our mechanics are thinking the master cylinder went out.

Any thoughts?

Suggest refill the master cylinder and bleed the system. Closely monitor the brake fluid level during weekly equipment checks.

Dot5 silicone brake fluid should be used unless it has been converted to something else.

Never mix dot5 with dot3.

Was the master cylinder empty?

Pull the rubber boot back off the master cylinder push rod just a bit and if it's leaking then you will see it. Oh don't be right under the master when you do it or you will feel it.

Always watch your reservoir level and air pressure.
