Break-In oil for the low hour MEPS

i don't think just because a unit has been through reset means the engine was new or rebuilt. also the hour meter may or may not be correct for actual engine hours because it could have been replaced. and i am unconvinced that the john deere oil we have available to us is the same as the gov spec oil because the TM on the engine says not to use a 10w oil. in my opinion if i thought i had a true low hour machine i would add some zinc to regular 15w 40 and go on from there. i am not OCD about the break in anyway. just an opinion

To clarify my unit has a reman motor in it from the tier 2.

Run the JD plus break in oil up to a 100 hours just like all the previous post described you'll be good. run it hard under load 75% to 100% make it work during that hundred hours.

Any person which has rebuilt or has torn apart a engine will tell you that the beginning running of a engine is critical to its overall life. I guess the military spec for running break-in oil is just hearsay.

John Deere break-in oil is a 10w-30 non detergent oil with additives. It is a tinge greenish color.

Standard diesel 15w-40 oil is detergent style.

Oh, the military uses it.

Thank You. i am not trying to be argumentative but let me ask a question. the TM specifically states not to use 10W30 oil so that leads me to believe that the " John Deere "oil that the military buys isn't the same as what i can get in the dealer??? the lister info says the same,"not to use 10W30" oil unless the temp is really cold. why would lister contradict itself? does John Deere make 14W40 break in oil?

Howdy,
The standard operating procedure for a generator in the field is to use what is issued. 15w-40 oil for oil changes etc... Artic service calls for other oil weights.

Coming from the factory or DRMO reset, the factory fill is break-in oil. Tags stating change after 100 hours. Break-in oil is not found out in the wild. The regular staff in the field has what is issued.
The guys at the DRMO just know when they rebuild a engine they use this hose with a meter on it to fill it with oil and put tags on the engine and S-1 switch saying to change the oil after 100 hours.

John Deere Break-In Plus comes in one flavor 10w-30, non-detergent with additives for the reason of breaking in a engine.

There are break in additives that could be added to 15-40, but probably hard to find in non-detergent 15-40, which is usually a diesel formulated oil.

Old thread but wanted to let everyone know that Joe Gibbs Driven has a 15w40 diesel breakin oil that is only slightly more expensive than the deere oil.
Can get it on Amazon and other places

Not really. I went to 3 different JD dealers today and none of them have it. 2 never heard of it and these were not small dealers (ag pro)

Also it's $30 at greenpartstore, and $28 at greenfarmparts with a minimum of 16 dollars shipping ($30 direct from JD as well)

So hardly double at $36 with free ship, but if you can point me to where I can buy the JD stuff for $18 dollars a gallon I would appreciate it

Not arguing, really, just looking for a good deal. I was posting the online stores because you said it was available there and that is what I found.

Look, I was posting another option for users if they wanted. I said in my post it was more expensive than the Deere product. I'm interested because it's 15w40 and not 10w30 and thought others might be as well. Clearly not "twice the price" in cost.

JD dealers around here don't really want to talk to you if you are a homeowner or a hobby farmer That's why I own a Branson and an Antonio Carraro.
