Bumper corner markers for w/w Deuce

I know that the "standard" military method was to drill holes in the top of the bumper and use a threaded rod with two nuts to lock it into place.

I did not want to do this, because
- the threaded rod will eventually fail due to vibration
- the threaded rod is metal and bends and may cause damage or poke someone's eye out
- I did not feel like drilling more holes into my bumper



My solution: A set of snow plow markers. They are flexible plastic with a metal mount at the bottom. I used one of the two mounting bolts for the folding bumper step to attach the metal mount of the rod. The mounting hole of the rod needed to be drilled out and the mount bent in a vise to achieve the right angle.

Low-cost solution ($20, plus paint) and looks good, in my opinion!

I left the top of the blaze orange rods in the original colour; it is very visible to traffic that way and also from the cab, from the corner of your eye.

Good solution. I used 3-foot metal rods that were off-the-shelf at ACE Hardware, and simply dropped into place. Course, they could still poke an eye out, but it was the simplest solution since the truck came with holes drilled in the bumpers for them to begin with.

These came on mine, just a rod welded on each end of the bumper with an antenna ball on top, saw this a lot in the Army.Not just for winch trucks, I have seen several variations on just about every vehicle in service.

I don't need no steeeenkin' bumper markers with the HUGE Brush Guard currently welded to my front bumper (see pics in the story link below).

However, I'll soon be replacing my bumper with a new, clean, stock bumper and find the ideas in this thread VERY informative and helpful. I'll see if I think they are necessary Post-Surgical Removal.

We called them "idiot sticks" when I was in.....but they were good aiming devices.
I became wary of them when I slipped while climbing off my wrecker and almost impaled my self on one......putting the big knob on top is a good idea.
To add a cool factor of ten you can put a yellow LED on top....looks cool at night.

I painted mine to match the outriggers. When your in tight quarters, it's comforting to have an idea of where that bumper really is.

That was why I made mine. But instead of mounting mine on top of the bumper, I put mine on the outsides.

Never really liked the idea until I was about to buy a truck from the old Extreme Offroad, the truck had them on with the winch cable wrapped around them. and they grew on me.
