If you have another states title it should be no problem. If you have nothing you are up for a little bit of a challenge.
In both cases, you will probably need to get a vin verification.
Whatever you do, DO NOT take it to the DMV for the verification. They will see that it is a former
military vehicle and put you on an Off Road only classification.
Do not ever mention it is a military vehicle, it is just a vintage Jeep.
I would suggest AAA or even better, pay an independent registration service or vehicle
inspector to complete your verification form. You have a much better chance of not getting
stuffed into the former military vehicle nightmare.

I was more wondering if they are street legal in California i have a m923a2 registered as an historic vehicle here alraedy. I was reading that many of the m151s were cut in half because they were deemed unsafe. ive seen some with plates in other states but with everything - California is special. i would hate to buy one and find out that they are not street legal here.

They are street legal, it is just weather the agent you are dealing with at the DMV chooses to say it is or not.
If they don't, take them to court. You will win, it will just take 10 years and cost one million dollars to fight.

Does anyone know if you can register an m151 in California?
no idea about california but those on here who say not to mention it's a MV are spot-on ... Does anyone recall 35-40 years ago when there was a registration/insurance issue with CJ5 jeeps due to an alleged rollover problem ?? ... I got around that by listing them as Jeep Utility

My 151a1 was listed on the title as 1960 Ford Truck. My 151a2 was listed as 1972 AMC Truck. No questions asked. The A2 did have a problem with the Vin# not being long enough but I just shrugged and said that's what it came with. But I'm in Ohio and that was 30 years ago....
