Are there any special rules to owning and driving a deuce in California? Where would someone get a deuce in Cali? All the good Deuces seem to come from the midwest.
Thanks

You will have to have antique plates to drive it in the near future because of the new clean air law that just went into effect. Which means you will not ever be able to haul anything.

Ok...give the guy a break......There are a couple of posts out there regarding registration issues, look up the words california and Registration in the search.

Some of the above posts are completely incorrect. PM me for a phone number and I can tell you how to get in touch with many in California who run these vehicles.

No it is not easy, some hoop jumping, but it is also not impossible.

Good Luck in your quest...I absolutely love driving mine in California!!!:driver:

Especially this time of the year, no heater, no defroster, no problem:beer:

It's rather long and starts out much like this one, but the facts get settled in the end.

The short version is, yes, you can get a Deuce in CA, I picked mine up last Thursday.

Yellobronc is right, there are some hoops to jump trough.

Register it as a Historical Vehicle, you won't have to pay expensive weight fees. Historical Vehicles do have some use limitations though. Registration should be about $100 a year as a Historical Vehicle, $800+ as a Commercal Vehicle, wasn't a hard choose for me.

Some insurance companies want your right n*t to insure them, but if you look around, you can get it for a reasonable price. I'm paying $302 a year.

The need for a Commercial Drivers License has been argued back and forth many times on this site. A Class B would be the safe way to go. I already had a Class A, so didn't have to worry one way or the other.

GL in Barstow has a bunch of M35A2s and some A3s coming up for sale. I believe there are other locations in CA that occasonally sell them, but Barstow was 90 miles away for me and has a pretty steady supply. Search GL's web site to see whats closest to you.

But most important, is to do a lot of research on this site! It's a GREAT site with lots of info and lots of helpful people.

As metioned by Michael, the CA smog laws on diesels is changing Jan. 1 2010, so get these while you can.

Good luck!
