The Camp Plymouth FALL swap meet and MV show is scheduled for September 7, 2021 through Saturday the 11th. It is promoted by the Military Vehicle Collectors of California. Location is 49er Village RV Resort, 18265 Hwy 49, Plymouth, CA 95669, and Amador County Fairgrounds for the tent campground, parking lot, and trailer storage at 18343 Empire Street just to the north of the 49er entrance.

Sunday is a pull out day, not a good show day although there are bargains to be had before merchandise is loaded into the trucks! This meet is earlier than normal due to conflicts at either or both venues later in September and early October.

As of this writing there is no general event information published on www.MVCCNews.net in the calendar section but it is the same type of event as the April meet which by the way was VERY SUCCESSFUL! There is still April general info available on that website if you aren't familiar with these swap meet/rallies.

As usual there is no admission fee. Visitors are welcome with free parking at the fairgrounds. Those commuting from hotel or home in a MV will receive a display parking spot inside our show. No MV registration fee. There are no vendor fees but all vendors must rent a campsite. Anyone can bring items to sell. No word yet if the path between fairgrounds and RV Village will be open. In April they had a solar construction project near there. If that is still closed you will probably want your MV for driving back and forth via the main gates rather than walk. But there is very little parking at the 49er so pre-arrange temporary parking at a buddies RV site if you need a spot. Do not park on the streets or in an empty site because it won't be empty for long!

There is a MV excursion planned so you might want to get your MV tuned up and registration up to date. The MVCC as promoter now requires all MVs at the meet to be insured for liability.

Just announced: MV Excursion to Black Chasm Cavern in Volcano! Great drive of about 20 miles and 1,000 feet higher. Admission is a discounted military rate of $15 per adult (over 12) and $8 for children 5-12 years old. Under 5 = free. Lots of stairs and bring a jacket.

The women are planning an offsite lunch trip TBA.

The camping reservation form is on the website showing the discounted RV and cabin rates at the 49er but as of August 1 these may be expired. Contact the 49er office at 209-245-6981 to ask about that or reserve at https://www.campspot.com/book/49er-village. You are not confined to being in our event block of sites. Use our form for the tent/truck campsites at the adjacent fairgrounds. For the fairgrounds sites, pay the MVCC in full. No minimum stay for dry tent sites.

There are hotels, B&Bs, and restaurants just down the street plus a nice grocery store with deli. Auto parts store is close. For those interested in wine and wineries, Amador County has 41 wineries and many are just up the hill from Plymouth. Old West and Gold Country tourism is another reason why people like the old towns along Hwy 49.

Updated original post with info about a military vehicle excursion on Thursday morning. Also a slightly different procedure for booking a site at the RV Village.

Hot news as of 9/1 afternoon... a letter from MVCC president:

Due to the ongoing Caldor Fire, the Amador County Fairgrounds will be an evacuation center. At this time the MV event tenting area and parking lot is moving to the upper field. Please do not enter the fairgrounds at the Empire St Gate. Only the gate at 18501 Sherwood St will be open for our event. No changes at the 49'er Village RV Resort are planned. To check on the smoke conditions please go to www.alertwildfire.org for real time webcam views.
Let us all remember that the people there may have lost everything to this fire. This is a moment for the hobby to bring a little distraction for some and maybe some joy to the kids.
MVCC President
Chris Thomas

The field he is talking about is shown on the attached map. Arrows show the roads to take if coming from the 49er direction. If from the North or from Latrobe Road/Old Sacramento Road, take Main St. in downtown Plymouth and south on Sherwood.

More info will be published as we learn about the new tent campground. It will be a longer walk to and from the RV campground, so a good time to bring your jeep or Mule! There is almost no parking in the RV park other than in paid sites but it will be easier to find a camper with some extra space for your small MV while you are walking around shopping, than if you are in your pickup.

The good news is the Caldor fire is not burning towards Hwy 49. The excursion to the Black Chasm Cavern in Volcano is still on.

Gun truck we just got home an hour ago. Mon-Wed was hot, Thurs-Fri was OK, and Sat was beautiful. The show was smaller than normal due to the fires, and a lot of the evacuees and their livestock, were staying at the slots with water and power, so we were waaaay back in the carnival area about 9 of us. Nice and quiet though. The showers were great and the heads were clean, couldn't ask for more. Ran the deuce about 800 miles round trip, she ran just fine.

Yeah very light turnout. Even the civilian camper-count in the RV village was light. We heard these excuses for not attending:

1. Smoke. This turned out to be a nothing burger. Pretty easy to learn likelihood of smoke a couple days before trip by the weather forecast (wind direction - the Caldor Fire was to the East-Northeast of us and usually the wind does not come from that direction). Skies were mostly blue except when clouds came in followed by rain one night. But for those sensitive to smoke and especially if it's a big effort to attend a meet in Plymouth due to distance, it is a real concern.
2. The fairgrounds moving our tent campground and parking lot to the other side of the fairgrounds to make room for evacuee trailers at our normal large field next to the RV village was probably a reason for some cancellations by folks who didn't want to walk a couple blocks back and forth from RV village. Bringing a jeep or Mule would have been a good solution - always room to find a place in RV village for temporary parking of a small MV while shopping or socializing. But not everyone has one to bring. Turned out there were only a handful of evacuee trailer rigs. What bad timing!
3. A few days before event week the temperature forecast went to 100 and probably that scared some away, especially tent and truck campers, maybe some commuters.
4. I heard someone told Jo-Ann it was fear of fire. She replied, "do you mean smoke?" No it was actual fire. As if there was fire everywhere.

I think everybody had a good time. Some a great time. The MV run to Black Chasm Cavern and the tour was very nice. The ladies shopping and lunch trip was good, socializing with friends and new acquaintances is always good. Parts and militaria was bought and sold. The 2022 Fall meet will be a week later and the MVCC will try to make it later than that in the future to lessen the heat. We have to work around events at the fairgrounds. Let's look forward to a big April meet last week of the month. The negatives above are not likely in April!
