Can any one help with a Fort Drum recovery?

Powerhouseduece, I got my class A CDL for about $285.00 total. Just get the manual from the dmv, study it, take the test, get physical, go to the on road test site pay them $100.00 to run you through a mock test. Learn from any mistakes you make, go back and take the real test (for about $150.00 if you use their truck and trailer) and wallah thats it. However, I was pretty comfortable with a truck and trailer and I took the test with a straight truck and trailer combo. I say this because I talked to a lady who paid over 10K for training and was driving a Lowes delivery truck (big ripoff if you ask me).

The thing that suck is that I live in maryland. If you do not have a company truck, you have to use the driving school truck, and take there classes. CHA-CHING$$$$$ This is where the diffrent states thing comes into play. in maryland you have to go though a drivers class where they talk to you like you 15 y.o. (just for the slow learners that probally should not be behind the wheel anyway) and thats what costs the most. And the part that really suck is that I have to wait untill I get laid off to go through the classes because they are night time classes and i work shift work.

Powerhouse, That sucks. What a waste of time. I would check around some more and talk to some other cdl guys in your state, there may be a better way. Thats what I did.

Nope, I went to school with a few people that got there CDL's and this is the BS that they had to go through.

And Lonesome, that a long story why i cant.

UPDATE: After two trips to Drum, Doghead, My oldest son, Chris, and I got the truck off Drum today and here to the farm. We beat the GL removal default deadline by a day.

Doghead and I never seem to bother to stop working to take pictures so please spare me the "This thread is worthless" drivel.

When one of the kids feeds me some picture posting brains I'll post some pics of Lonesome715's M915A1.

The truck had electrical issues, fuel delivery and filtration issues, needed an new master switch, had cut brake lines, a broken brake line and fitting, a removed spring brake can, light issues, yadda, yadda, yadda.

DH and I worked on it in the rain yesterday until the rain was running down our butt cracks. I scrounged up the air lines and other parts last night.

DH, Chris and I went back this AM and beat the wee beastie into submission and drove it out.

It's running strong, rolling straight and stopping smoothly without pulling to either side.


140 miles later it's out by the shop on the edge of one of our fields with the rest of the "Children of the Korn"

My thanks go out to DH and Chris for their help.

Wow.Congrats to all who was involved.I am glad that they let you work on it enough to get it running.Hows it seem to run with the Allison?Still waiting for more parts for mine.

It has a 5 speed automatic transmission. It shifts a little hard going from first to second and depending on how you are braking it down shifts to first with quite a thump. I'm guessing that's because first is geared so low.

It's pretty spry with all the power it's got and no trailer but given the way it felt on the few steep hills on the way home I can see where a heavy load might make for a "better pack you a lunch" kind of deal on a long steep grade.

Our 16 year old who has been around machinery all his life and has been being hired by local farmers to work on their equipment for a few years now has given it his seal of approval.

Now I'm going to have to change my GL password or he'll be bidding on one.

That is one problem we had over here. Some of the hills we would hit with a load fuel tanker made a real slow and easy to hit target. On flat and rough roads they did very well. I like how easy they are to drive. I think my wife will have an easy time learning on that truck.
