Looking at buying a HMMWV from a local PD. They don't know what motor is in it and I'm new to HMMWVs (previously owned a HEMTT but never messed with HMMWVs).

Can anyone ID this for me?

It obviously never been through an upgrade, seeing it still has the 60A alt I would guess it is a 6.2L.
But I do not see a emissions sticker on the valve cover so it is possibly a rebuild, one certain way is to look at the oil pump drive (on the back of the motor where the dist would be on say a 350 chvy) if the hold down bolt is on the left it is a 6.2L if on the right it is a 6.5L, you would need to pull the doghouse inside to check.
At this point it really does not matter as unless it is a GEP which would have an emmisions sticker there is not a nickles difference between the GM 6.2 and the GM 6.5L.
That truck has a three speed so if you want to do a fair amount of highway driving pass and get a 4 speed truck as this one is only comfortable to 55-60MPH

Agree with Mogman, body has the ancient mirror mounts which puts it at early to mid 1980's mfg. More than likely 6.2.

Looking at the WMOs it looks like it got 3 point seat belts and a steering cooler.
Assuming the first two number in the serial number are zeros that is a 1986 model, very early in production.
During rebuild is it likely received a rebuilt engine, if so it should be a 6.5L.
It did not go through RECAP where it would have been upgraded to a M1097 heavy variant.

What would you guys say this truck is worth?

It fired right up and ran good. Drove it briefly back and forth but not much beyond that.
I am sorry, I cannot speak on the value, down here they are selling many 3 speed R1 trucks that have gone through RECAP, they have GEP engines, 200A dual voltage alternators and a ton of other upgrades, still only 3 speed trucks though, you can get a decent one for around $4k or so, they of course are not "road ready" but even the one you are looking at will likely need many upgrades and repairs, new tires (even though those tires may look good they are likely 10-20 years old) all new filters and fluids, a seal or two here and there, the half shafts are likely ready to give up because of their age, electrical work that may include new glow plugs and possibly a EESS box (around 1K) you will find those basic seats very uncomfortable, upgrade to high back military seats are around $1200 and up, of course you can make many aftermarket and even junk yard seats work if you don't care about originality.
So figure in from half the purchase price on up to get it road worthy.
If you do go forward at least check all the fluids you can, no water in the oil, oil in the water etc.
On the plus side it does look to have a homebrew hard top and rear wall
