Chatroom removeal

I do not use the chatrooms option and wish to remove the bar
at the bottom of the pages and the user popups. Also, I think
this feature is slowing down the website's usability too much.

Is there a way to turn this feature off.

There is a little down arrow on the right side of the bar that says "close this bar" or some such, and the bar goes away when I click it. I'm running this on Win 7 with Firefox.

If you click the "gear" for settings, there's also a option to disable popup notifications.
