Clutch bushing?

Forgive me for not being able to post page 23 of the Deuce's lube order that displays the grease-fittings for the "Clutch Throw Out Shaft"... With that said, this past weekend I was pumping some grease into this fitting and a steel-in-color ring began to emerge from the clutch linkage side and was large enough to go over the "tines" of the shaft. Any ideas why this occurred? Is it normal?

that is a grease seal, it was not a tight fit and you pushed it out with the grease

Is that ok? Should I not pump so much again? Should I press it back in (it's out 1/8").

You should push it back in if it is easy to push in. It won't hurt anything either way.
