Column Noise

Got this noise in the column as I go up and down my driveway in my 1008, did a ton of stuff to my truck over last three years, some of you have seen the truck in pics.

The noise is there every time not just now and then, its just over small bumps not out on road or even in hay field just a small thump as I cross over certain things, no rattle, no play, drives great,(a lot of the same things have been replaced after we get one of these trucks) no pull of the wheel.

I'm thinking the worst, bearings in column?- my truck has no signal switch issues or shift lever, no key switch issue, dimmer, back-up light switch, etc... I dread this fix if its the column.

Need some input on this, if anyone has had same issue or knows a thread I can go to. Yes I did some searching and this wasn't found by me.

My guess would be to check your drag link if you have stock steering something down there may need some grease. small bumps make it move just enough to pop slightly and the sound is transfering up through your steering wheel. there should be nothing in the steering wheel or column that moves becasue of a bump the suspension takes.
you only hear it in the driveway beacuse thats the only time the engine and road noise is quiet enough to hear it and on the road larger bumps make it move alot and thus no noise.

I would check drag link and all tie rod ends for greasing. If you have done cross over steering then your tie rod end that connects to the steering arm may be dry. another big culprit for pop noises is the leaf spring bushings and one happens to be right next to the steering box so that could be it also. The greasable bushings make a huge difference in suspension noise.

My last 1009 had all kinds of sounds from the tie rods and suspension that transfered through the column. It was a deer lease vehicle and sat 7-8 months a year. I had to regrease everything every year to get rid of the noise.

did not see anyone else chiming in so I thought I would throw in my 2 cents worth of knowledge
