1- How many miles per gallon... in my case consistently 13MPG
2- IS that a REAL Humvee?
3- Is that bullet proof?
4- How did you come to own that?
5- What is it?
6- If you hit my car would it just explode?
7- Can I take a picture?
8- How fast will it go? since replacing the lift pump it will now hit 70 but is a 3 speed so is turning some revs then.
9- How much did you pay for it?
10- Where did you find that?

for extra credit other drivers like to exclaim how cool it is,
"Dude! That Thing is SICK!"
"I'm a Vietnam vet I love that thing"
"THAT'S COOL!!!"

Other comments are:

Not much space for the driver.
They didn’t spend much on comfort, huh?
How does it do on the trails?

One that sometimes bother me a little bit:
Is this a H1?
Or they call it a Hummer. But I’m never put off enough to not talk with anyone about it.

Edit: My M1123 4 speed gets around 14.5 mpg In the summer, 13-14 in the winter.

@KKroger as I recall they were simply 'light vehicles' in the first place, so armour was only an afterthought retrofit which naturally added to quite more weight aka long-term mechanical issues (especially the chassis itself)

as for #6 ummm are you sure you haven't confused the ford pinto?

Yep sort of medium I think taking the place of the 1/4 ton jeep or 151 and the 1008/1009 1 1/4 ton....

We expedient armored with flak vests back in the day. And and ga just like they did jeeps and mutts and m35s

When I had my M1009 I was mortified if someone thought I painted a K5 in camo - "It came that way from the factory!"

I'd be equally mortified if someone thought my 1165 was one of those SUV conversion kits...

4- How did you come to own that?
"They park them all over on the base, and there's no keys, so..."

Ironically, I think I could easily do just that. Several in the DRMO lot start right up. I keep mine looking like it's still on active duty, and have never even gotten some side-eye driving it out the gate.

I usually just tell people I borrowed it from work...
There are only Two HMMWV on the installation, and one is with the fire department, and one is mine.
The Fire Dept complains no end about their HMMWV it is a Turbo Diesel with the fire apparatus on the back for range fires.
I need to ask the Colonel if I can get a pic of my HMMWV in front of the base sign... Photos are Verboten here. for a variety of silly reasons.

I’m serious. I get 8 mpg
I found on my M1123 the throttle return spring at the end of the pull cable was stretched, replaced it and went from 1050 rpms to 700rpms at idle. That made a big difference, then fixed my Cadillac valve, thermostat and Time Delay Module. That gave me a huge bump... Went from 12 to 14.5. I know it's a 4 speed, but look into that it may help more than you think.
