Has anyone here converted a M51 series truck from the old style power steering that it originally came with to the newer M800 series power steering box? How difficult of a job is it?

Our 5 ton Mack powered tractor had been updated prior to us buying it. It appears that they reused the pump and tank from the old system and added the steering box, column and two cylinders from the 800 series trucks. If you had an old 800 truck for parts it should not be too hard to do.

Bringing this back up. Since it's been a minute, wanted to see if any members here have done this conversion and could add any pointers. Truck in question is an M51A2, looking to "steer away" from the old steering gear before is steers away on it's own. Is the LDS pump adequate? Is the reservoir compatible? I appreciate what m139h2otruck posted but asking for personal experience.

This is a pictures of when I replaced the multi fuel in my 67 M52A2 with a Mack 673 using the multi fuel steering pump with the insides turned around because it now turns the other way the reservoir is a lot smaller then the multi fuel its maybe 1 1/4 quarts other then what is in the hoses and the fluid is fine no heat . so a smaller reservoir is ok.
