most of the gun trucks were 5 tons, but since it's a deuce thread I didn't want to get off topic :) Apparently there is only 1 authentic vietnam gun truck left in existence, "Eve of Destruction"

I saw this happen. the truck was sinking each time the drunks in the back would jump off the troop rack. BTW thats not a lake, its actually a giant mud puddle under some high tension wires

Ken;
My three year old is about the same way! He loves riding shotgun whenever he can, awake or sleeping. BTW, I love the Indiana University cup cubby! Go Big Red! Anyway I'm feeling much better now. The kids gave me one rough flu to fight. Also, check your PM too.

Good Eye on the IU koozie. I'm afraid to report that it no longer lives, got crushed by the deuce. Belive it or not I remember exactly where and when I bought that one. Just to let you know, I had that since 1991. Mighta been the oldest koozie!

not sure if this is a deuce or not- front wheel positioning appears to be a 5 ton, but it's mostly obscured and I see no exhaust stack. Could it be a gas powered deuce? <img src="emoticons/icon_smile_shrug.gif" alt="Shrug">

It is a drop side 5ton. Look at the end of the cargo bed. 5ton's have an extention at the back of the bed. Anyway it is a nice picture.

As far as I know all Nam era gun trucks were 5'ers. The only deuce gun trucks I have seen are the replicas that folks are putting together these days. Those were some bad machines and the only thing that kept the Viet-Cong from shooting the crap out of every supply convoy.

this site is truly fascinating, and there's a ton more pics that are questionable if they were deuces:

http://groups.msn.com/VietnamGunTrucks/

regardless, they are amazing trucks, I can't believe only ONE survived

I have pic of a rare truck too. It is my V17A MTQ waitting for a restoration. It doesn't look good but it runs and stops fine it has no major rust and most of all it has no milles. The only problem is that it is a gas OA331 model and a gallon of gas is over 3.5$ here.
