I'm looking in to purchasing a Stewart and Stevenson of some kind. I'd like to get a 6x6 to build a custom toy hauler/camper out of. So I guess I'm looking for a 1083/1088/1089. The longer chassis would be helpful but it seems there is a cooler of some kind mounted behind the spare tire carrier. Only seeing these drive down the road occasionally I can't get close enough to see what it's for. Is it because they have the 330hp version ?

See the cooler behind the tire?

If it were me I would relocate it. It's a nice feature. If you are not hauling a heavy load you may not really need it though. If you don't put your location city and state down the mods will tell you to do it.

Yes that would be nice to keep it. I can't seem to find any specs on the height from the ground to the top of the frame rails. Thanks again for the info.

Absolutely, although there is no budget way to MV's
I'm sure but waaaaaay cheaper than an earth roamer. Those are beautiful trucks but don't have close to that kind of budget. I figure I can buy one from auction reasonably and buy some sort of trailer to make a custom type camper for about $50k
