Correct antenna m1008

What, if any, is the correct antenna/mount for an M1008? What side should it be mounted on?

I would probably not be the person to answer this question, as I only own 1 CUCV, but I will still give you my observations.
It seems these vehicles were used in so many different ways that there would not be a particular place to mount the antenna. Some had one, some had four. I think the holes should pretty much tell you the configuration. There were several different types of antenea on these vehicles also.

Attached a couple pictures from GL showing the actual antenna mount used on a M1008 (can't find my drive with all of my pictures on it). There's a guard that goes around this base but not all vehicles used it. The antenna base (AS-1729) mounts to this base. A two peice fiberglas whip antenna attaches to the base. A plastic antenna tip goes on the end. The radio mount MT-1029 mounts on the metal rack in the back of the pick-up bed. The radio can be operated from inside the cab using control box C-2299 or C-2742 (forget which one), speaker LS-454/U and a handset H-189. Under the resources tab on the Steel Soldiers website, click on Technical Manuals and look for TM 11-5820-401-20-1. Page 1-0 has drawings of all of these items. The TM itself is a wealth of information listing the numbers of the cables needed to hook all of this stuff together. Do a search on ebay for CUCV or Military Radio and you can find some of this stuff. Also check FairRadio.com. Hope this helps. I'm not a commo guy.

Also the M1008 didn't normally have a radio. The M1008A1 did. That is the one with the radio rack in the back. It could have 4 antennaes mounted on it. One would be on each corner of the bed.

I wonder the diff in the m1008 and th m1008A1. I just bought an M1008 and it has 3 places where antenna mounts were. The front and rear of the bed on the passenger side and just the rear on the driver side. I would love to get a military style mount and antenna if I could use it for a CB.

I saw this old post but I'm trying to figure out the same thing. I do have a radio connector under the dash of my truck, and I'm trying to figure out the proper radio and antenna for my 84 M1008.

Any luck on your search?

Is this the "radio connector" you have under the dash? If so, it isn't a radio connector. It's the STE-ICE test device connector. All CUCV's....as well as a lot of other mil vehicles....have them.

Not that one. I should have given a better description. It's a plug on a wire that's like - up in the dash. It is located under/in the dash to the right of the test connector. I found it when I was doing cleanup work on the truck. I asked a guy with an M1009 to check it out and he said that it looked like a radio connector. I guess It really doesn't matter because I'm not looking to get a working radio. I'd just like to get the correct radio, antenna, and mount.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

That era was the 12 series radios. The VRC 46 and VRC 47 were vastly more common than the other models in the CUCV although other 12 series models were used.

Back in my days it was mounted in the bed in a rack that occupied 1/4 or more of the bed space.
