Crew cab talk

so let me start off by saying that i think bobbing a deuce is lame... ok i've got that off my shoulders. So i see alot of bobbed crew cabs but not alot of 3 axle crew cabs. I am considering a crew cab mod to my truck but am curious what to do with the bed. i know alot of guys are running the m109 trailers for beds but i think they are ugly and clearly only have 1 wheel well cut out. Now i have been toying with the idea of removing the bed and just cutting how ever much i need to fit another cab right out of the middle of it. does anyone have any suggestions on the matter? id like to keep the truck looking as close to stock as possible but with 4 doors obviously. i already have 395's and have removed the spare tire etc. id like to keep it as simple as possible.

Stretch the frame add a carrier bearing and a section of drive shaft. I would do that before I would cut the bed. I think the frame stretch would be easier for myself

carrier bearing and shaft is easy fro me seeing as i work for a machine shop but how would i stretch the frame? does anyone have a link with some pics or a good walk through?

I remember a thread where a guy did a CC and kept the stock bed...it was a LONG truck but looked pretty neat

stretching the frame just seems so outlandish to me.. if i went that route i might as well spread the axles and throw some 53's on it.

you should! why ANYONE in their right mind would hack up the very thing that makes our trucks unique is beyond me. Have fun on 4 wheels like everyone else..

start with an m36a2, it has a longer bed and frame. swap out the bed for an M35a2 12 foot bed, and then you will have the room for a crew cab, and you will have a stronger frame than one stretched.

Was it necessary to share your dislike of the bobbed deuce before you started your subject? You have probably just alienated a fair bunch of good fabricators by doing so.

Anyways, if you don't want to stretch the frame, you will need to shorten the bed or select a different one. Not quite following you on the 109 trailer either, can you explain? No way you can make it a 4 door and keep it looking stock. Since you have pretty much narrowed down all the things you don't like, just build it from there without those mods.

well i already have an m35a2 so thats not going to work

Its easier than you think to do. I have done a few semi's. first you have to had a level place to work, and some good tall jack stands. I cut the frame at a 45 degree angle on each side at the same place and get a new piece of frame which any steel supplier should have, same size as the old frame cut so it fits together at the same angle I do the angle cut because it gives me more weld. Weld on inside and out top and bottom. then grind flush, don't forget to square it up before you weld it. Then get another piece of frame as long as you can squeeze on the inside of your old frame so it overlaps your welded joint, I like a foot or so past my welds. Then drill some holes, use some big bolts grade 8 maybe 3/4 or 1' ones and lock nut and bolt the inner piece in. It sounds like a lot of work but 1 good day will do it. I have used this method for more than a few dump trucks and never had a problem yet and from the outside you can't tell it was done.

yeah i have access to all of this stuff.. i build hydraulic frac pumps for a living so Crane/ bolts/welder/ steel all at my disposal

Not wanting to alienate anyone but I would like to offer an opinion. I would cut the existing bed down to fit after fabbing up your crew cab. Leave the 105 trailers for towing behind the Deuces.

If you read more carefully you'll awnser your own question. I want to see what options are available to me. Besides the people with absolutely nothing to contribute such as your self I have gained some usefull info. It seems everytime I thread is started on this web site there are more people posting useless comments than usefull ones, I've said it a million times and I'll say it again if you have nothing good to contribute than please do not post.
