I was wanting to purchase a 105A2 to pull behind my 1008 but don't know if the 105 is too tall to drag behind an unmodified 1008.

Since we have National Guard Engineer Units nearby I wanted to have a pioneer setup to have for parade duty in town.

Or does the 1008 need to be lifted to be at ride height with the 105. Thanks for any help with my decision.

You'd need some lift to make it work, even with the lunette flipped down it will not be quite level. You also won't have functioning brakes so check your local laws on that.

I was afraid of that with 9.00x20 tires I thought the ride heights would be to different.
The brakes would be great to work when loaded but maybe just for parades it would be ok.

An M1101 wouldn't be a bad choice, but would still work best with a lifted truck.

Of course there's always the M101....

Actually with the lunette down an m105 series will be pretty close if not level, just checked some pics from when I've done it. Without a full amount of weight the m1008 will handle it, "legally" it may not be ok. m1101s, m101a3s, m101a1s with the lunette up will be pretty level. The m101a2 is the "correct" trailer for an m1008 but will be a little up hill behind one.

This is the same chassis as an m105. I think my other m1028 sits higher up, the one pictured has broken and well worn springs.

I think you'll find the 105 is too big for your truck. It's made to tow behind the Deuce (and maybe the 5 ton?). Air brakes. Take a look at its empty weight. Do you really want that?

The correct trailer is the M101 series. I have the M101A2 and it's a perfect match for my M1028. It's not only matched for size, it's a good match for the load.

Looks like the 101 series is a better fit. I had seen the 105s for sale and thought that for the money I might try one. But with weight, brakes, height, the 105 is for larger truck.

I will start scouting for 101 series.

The M1102 is a good choice for towing behind the CUCV. I have 2 M1102's that I have towed with both my M1008 and M1028. Lights and brakes work with the plug and no air is needed. Both of my trucks are stock height. If you wanted to reduce the height of the trailer you could always just swap out the 37" tires for something smaller.

The M101A2/A3 was designed for the M1008/28.
Surge brakes are great when maintained and is the perfect size and load for the truck.

Their kinda scarce at auction now but plenty still out there privately.
IMHO it’s the best trailer the military ever made.
I use mine almost every day.

Yes the M1101/2 series will also work, but those were designed for the HMMWV and don’t look right behind a CUCV.

Glad you passed on the M105A2.
That’s a big heavy trailer just sitting there empty.

Thanks for all the experienced information. I almost pulled the trigger on the 105 but after seeing the monster spring pack I surmised that the trailer must be for a larger truck and decided that I need further information.

I will most likely get a set of 37's, just for grins but want to be as original as possible for the parade, MV Gatherings, or car show scene.

The wife has taken a liking to the D30, so I think another D30 to modify would be appropriate. Having a K30 civi with 6.2 since 1982, has given me some much needed mechanical experience with now having the much "easier" D30 to work on.
