CUCV Fire Hazard

Just an FYI for you all. I had a little truck fire this morning in my 1028. The 1/4 inch steel diesel fuel return line that runs behind the passanger side alternator near the water pump will rub one of your wire terminals if you have too short of an alternator belt and you dont pay attention to the clearances back there. Replaced a bad alternator the other night and the belt, and 18 miles later the generaor 2 light came on and the cab filled with smoke. Popped the hood and had a little fire. shut the engine off and then I had a much bigger fire without the fan blowing on it. Now I have alot of work to do to get her running again, but with new roll of fusible wire on the way and $10 in fuel hose and clamps, I will have her running before the embers have time to cool.

Anyone know where I can get a replacement alternator for this? Anyone got a good Alternator # for a parts store? I will be left with 2 cucv's and 2 good alternators, but I need all 4 as you know.

After this, my M1009 starter bolt broke, in turn breaking my starter housing....now i have 2 green trucks in my barn and I am stuck driving a Ford. It's a bad day on the Mountain.

Take the good alternator from the drivers side and put it on the passenger side.

On the drivers side, put this there:

From NAPA

Alternator - Remfd, 100 Amp Product Line: Bosch
Part Number:
BSH AL544X
Attributes
Alternator Amperage : 100 Amp
Pulley Type : 1
Voltage Regulator Type : Internal
This is for a 1975 Cadillac Commercial Chassis. It fits great, works, has the appropate amperage output but it can NOT be used on the passenger side.

EDIT:

I got mine from O'Reilly... just thought it was NAPA
IIRC it was $95 at O'Reilly plus a $15 core (keep your old core)

Oreilly part number: 01-0136
1975 caddy commercial

diode:1876797
rectifier 1875645 - Borg/Warner SC117 (rectifier)

My bad one just needed a rectifier and I put some new brushes in also and it worked great.

They are stupid easy to rebuild...
