I have searched and cannot find an answer. My 86 M1009 has a bad ignition. When I turn the vehicle to off sometimes it keeps running. Until I can get this fixed how can I shut down my vehicle in the event it won't shut off by normal means, ie, the ignition

So how did you shut it off when it did not turn off?

Did you remove the pink (may look red) wire on the top of the Injection Pump to shut off the engine?

No, i turned the key to the off position and wiggled the ignition and the engine slowly shut down

The TM 9-2320-289-20 manual has a section just for this problem. Usually it is the ground wire next to the emergency brake.

Also your ignition switch may be bad or needs adjusting.

On a diesel, there is no "ignition" system. Just fuel and air. There is a fuel shutoff on top of the injector pump.

Cool, will check that wire first. Am leaning towards the ignition swith being bad

I've heard that pinching the fuel return hose also causes the engine to shut down.

Do the easiest first. Get under the dash and clean the ground. Worked for me.

Some times mine runs for about 4 seconds after i turn off the truck, how long does it run for on yours ?
