CUCV's and forklifts

I got this scrape on the side of the 1028 truck bed. That's why I had to have a peak under there to see how they actually lift CUCV's with a forklift without damaging the tank or driveshaft.

So how do they do it? I have no clue. Can someone clue me in?

It all depends on where the forks end up. A half an inch can make all the difference. They really don't care.

Look for any scrape/rub marks on the driveshaft and the transfercase. If you see marks on the driveshaft rub your fingers over the mark and you should be able to "feel" the damage.

I have seen driveshafts really mangled and some just slightly damaged. Also the transfercase can be cracked.

I wasn't able to see any damage or indentation or even anything bent. the TC isn't leaking, so I think It must be ok (ohh and it's filled with fluid)

Here is a photo of the side of the truck with the scrape

The fender flairs my have saved it. It put the forks in a better location.

The forklift operators don't care what they lift from. If they get it right they lift on the frame rails. Most of the time it is whatever the forks land on. It also depends on how they have the forks set. The larger lifts have adjustable fork spread. All depends on how big of a hurry they are in.

I have seen many trucks lifted with a forklift. Some looked good. Most where painfull.

You may be able to have the shaft rebalanced.

Looks like about a $400 booboo. No rebalance on that one. Not as bad as some I have seen, but it is still bad.

Contact a driveline repair shop. They can give you your options.

Just visited the link you posted. Very interesting reading.

actually I found it... there is a bend in the driveshaft.
Wondering how bad it is... But I probably need a new one.
You most likely have a cracked transfer case as well. It may be a hairline crack that's hard to find (until your off road and it breaks the tail house off). Stupid GovLiquidation! I wont ever buy a CUCV that has ANY side dents in side(s).
