My mule doesn't have a data plate there is a 4 digit number on the bottom side of the deck left front corner, does this number have anything to do with the data plate I cleaned and removed a lot of old paint and this is the only number i found is there any other way to figure it out.

Welcome to the site. You will really enjoy your mule. Do you know if it is USMC or Army? Carnac came up with a listing of Army mules and I attached a copy. I'm assuming you carefully took the paint off the side where the numbers are located? You can easily find replacement data plates for the Mule. Assuming it wasn't repainted after military service, you can tell if it is USMC or Army by the paint color in most cases. Also, if you know the history, such as previous owners, dealers, etc. they might have more information.
EDIT: I guess NDT beat me to the listing!
