Hooked up batteries on my new to me M1028. I cranked the truck and the starter was hanging up like it had a bad relay. no problem Disconnect the battery and relay. Hooked them both up and was getting smoke at the drivers side ALT and the Terminal above the GPR. No problem Disconnect them and it made a huge spark at the ground. Then I took a test light and hooked it up to the negative cable to the battery and one by one disconnect the alts to see if they were bad. Nope. I got it narrowed down to the cable to the starter or the starter its self. Weird that the OEM relay would out last the starter. I searched and came up with little. Has anyone ran into this problem before?

I have seen the battery cable and solenoid wire at the starter ground out on many trucks.

More than likely the starter is bad.
