Degreaser Question

I'm going to prep a complete motor and tranny for paint and all the degreasers at the parts store say they attack rubber and plastic. Is there any that don't and preferably don't leave a residue afterwards. All the harness is off the engine so there are 40 exposed electrical fittings so I won't be spraying it with a hose either. Thanks.

Try this... Pretty good stuff and it doesn't eat rubber.

There are a few fundamental types of degreasers. Solvent, caustic, and enzyme. The solvent is the most likely to damage rubbers and plastics. There are a lot of different types of rubbers and plastics. Your wiring, for example, is either PVC or polyolefin plastic and is not likely harmed by short term exposure to solvent degreasers.

Caustic and enzyme degreasers won't harm your rubber components but the caustic degreasers can remove paint.

For paint prep I do suggest caustic degreasers as they can be rinsed cleanly away with lots of water.

Run water over the surface and if it beads at all it needs to be cleaned more prior to painting.
