Nice job on that hoist!
Do you think you might be better off making your own side boards, rather than using the troop seats for regular or heavy hauling? The gaps in the troop seats won't reliably hold gravel back and I am sure they get trashed quite quickly.
That is a definite thought. I'd hate to get the troop seats all nicely painted and then beat the snot out of them with a bunch of gravel.

I got the sides re-done with some 3/4" brown trex fascia which turned out looking pretty reasonable, not quite as nice as the original green, but good enough! I tried for a full 6 tons, which they loaded more to the front, and I found the limit of the dump hoist. I had to shovel a fair bit from the very front to the back to get the dump hoist to lift the load. I'm hoping a board on the back so I can have them load it towards the rear will be enough to allow for a 6 ton load. If I were to do it again I think I'd move the hoist forward a foot or so and sacrifice dump angle for more load lifting capacity.

Have you verified that you pump pressure is correct? How big is you cylinder? What is the cylinder stroke compared to the accual scissor stroke?

My hoist is mounted pretty close to where yours is. My pump is set at 2500psi, my cylinder is 5", and the scissor/cylinder ratio is 3:1. That gives me a total lift at the hoist of around 16,000lbs. I've had 8 tons on mine and it dumped it.

Good looking kit and nice job installing and documenting!

I've seriously considered building my own kit as I already have a real nice 12 volt pump/reservoir and a longer throw 4" cylinder.

My problem is finding a plan for the scissor lift portion which I can definitely build if I can find blueprints.

Sorry for going off topic a bit...I'm just getting excited about the prospect of having a dump deuce!

I verified the pressure at 2,500 psi with the 5" cylinder 16" stroke. The scissor is right at 72" stroke (4.5:1 ratio), the hinges are mounted at about 18" from the rear of the bed. If my math is right that equates to about 49,000psi of force from the ram, then divide by the mechanical reduction of the scissor is about 5 tons of lifting force, after that it gets a bit complicated due to the bed length and the amount of over-hang, but I'd think that it should have come closer to the 8 tons the spec said it should hit. The spec does say "water level load" versus the pile made by the gravel, which was admittedly loaded more forward. I think I'll pull the hose and verify the pressure again just to be certain, and maybe tweak it up to 3,000 since the pump says it can do 3,200.

Looks as though you have your hoist mounted forward of the center of the bed. At the center point your hoist has to lift the weight of the whole load to get the bed started up. Anything forward of that point would increase lift capacity. For instance, if your hoist was mounted at the very front of the bed it would only have to lift half the load. The overhang will help some also. My hinge is mounted at the rear of the bed so I don't have any overhang but my hoist has less lift/cylinder stroke ratio at 3:1.

I checked your math and it is correct. With where your hoist is mounted and if your load was front heavy, you could have very well been beyond the capacity if your setup.

Excellent price on that hoist. One I priced a couple years ago was more than double that. Was thinking of doing the M211 because it has two sets of leaf springs. A main pack and then an auxilary pack for heavy loads. I would rather sell the 211. I have a m51 5 ton dump. Nice strong fab job on the frame. Looks like it will take the load. Thanks for the pics.

omaha standard i installed subframe type lifted ben 4 inches 8000lbs on road max for 2.5 ton off road i had at least 15000lbs truck pulled in mud but if ground wet sinks bad.built pond in back yard used soil to grade around my home.beds are not desighned but work you can see all ribs from loading rocks had leaf spring bottomed out,rear drive shaft yoke hits hoist when too much load.my kit included everthing was aroud 2400 make sure go over kill on lifting capacity guy bought off did not figure right over 8000 punds wont lift
